Where do I find Kathyinmo and why is she gripping her eggs? What breed?

I just can't decide since I have limited space I need to choose carefully. I was thinking, maybe, Barred Plymouth Rock? I love really big chickens, feathered feet might not be so fun in the snow we have. Help!!

OOOoooooo you have some gorgeous looking birds. I'd be interested in getting some for the easter hatch a long, but I have a feeling that eggs from such fine looking specimens will be out of my price range.

I have 24 mutt chicken eggs from my family in Alabama set to hatch March 1st. I'm really excited to see what I'm going to end up hatching out as I got a whole bunch of different size shape and color of eggs and they have a whole bunch of purebreds and mutts thrown together in one large pen so this is one big chicken grab bag! This will be my second try in my home-made bator. The first of which was a total bust on 7 shipped frizzled cochin eggs. All of them seem to be developing this time so I'm hoping the adjustments I made to my bator are working out well. If I get a good hatch this time around then I hope to join the great Easter hatch-along with some purebred beauties! I'm so excited.

Sorry to hear the eggs didn't make it.. I would not allow her to sit for another 3 weeks.. Being broody is hard on them... I would either break her broodiness or get a few day old chicks to put under her...

I've been working on breaking her, but she is stubborn! I pull her out at night and put her on the roost, but she's back at it by morning. I'm going to rearrange the "furniture" this weekend, so maybe that will help

Allie (the two year old) has a great personality. She is the first one to come up to you. God forbid you are trying to get anything done on the fence when they are turned out. She will pester you and will try to "help" by picking up my bag of tools. I am sure she would run away with them if I don't snag them from her fast enough. She is so easily trained and has the most wonderful floating trot. She is also the reason my fences had to be at least 5' tall. When she was 4 1/2 months old she almost cleared a 4 to 5' fence with only about 10' of running space. Her sire is Atlantis. He was imported from Germany and is one of very few approved breeding stallions in the states. Yup I can go on and on about how wonderful Knabs are.

Sounds like Aria

Yesterday I went out and she had tipped over the 100 gallon water tank and was booting it about the pasture like a soccerball. I guess she has a bad case of cabin fever too! Fortunatly the automatic waterer finally unfroze.

Pretty normal, they need to rest from time to time while they hatch. It's hard work.

put what about the very very white membrane that is still intact is that normal i fugured the membrane would have a hole in it before the actual shell starts to break off

UGH! I am not sure how much hatching I should be doing. DH is retiring from the Marines this year. He is out on terminal leave end of May retired in October. He may have a job offer back in Ft Worth. He has just begun his job search, so it's really nothing more than an option right now. I wouldn't mind getting the heck out of CA, but the prospect of moving all the animals is more than overwhelming. I was contemplating a Great Dane puppy too.
