Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Hi -

I would like to join the Easter Hatch - and yes, this is my first "official" one, so please go easy on me. I did my first 2 hatchs last year by myself, and it was CRAZY

so hopefully joining the "hatch club" will allow me to tap into the wisdom of the great chicken council

and give me someone to talk to at 3 AM when I am up waiting for PEEPERS to POP OUT!

I have a small flock of Dorkings, and am planning to hatch some of my own eggs, as well as some additional eggs from some new Dorking buddies

so I am GEEKED

Ok, I just missed the hobby farm photo-op of a lifetime. Picture this: Top two nest boxes with one hen in each, bottom two nest boxes each with one of these in it!

By the time I got out there with my camera it looked like this:

The hens were still on duty.

But the goats had moved in front of the heater!

Maybe next time!

I had a surprize in yesterday's hatch. Only three eggs from my scambled egg shipment, supposedly white meat bird, black tailed red meat bird crosses, went to lockdown. One pipped at the wrong end; I broke my vow not to help nonhatchers and got this little bugger out. I suspect the other two chicks notice there's something different about their "sibling" .

I have no idea what happened but they sure are cute scrambled eggs!

Judging from the muffs and beard, an EE may have jumped the fence. Either that, or a brown egg from another pen, where Ameraucanas are intentionally being crossed to make EEs, somehow got in the wrong basket.

Oh I hope I'm not too late! I would love to join in on the Easter Hatch. Sounds like fun. I will most likely be hatching eggs from my own flock. They will be EE hens X with either my Blue or Black Ameraucana roos.

My boyfriend asked me today how many chickens I have. That wasn't too hard of a question (I can count to 44 pretty easily).

Then he asked how many eggs I was getting for the Easter hatch. Hmm... 18-ish?

Then he asked what kind.

Doh! I've forgotten.

I can't even remember who I bought them from. Good thing I've already paid for them.
