Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Quote:
They'll be fine. The last week or so the chicks/ducks are big enough that they can 'turn' themselves in the egg and don't really need to be turned. The ducks should hatch 5-7 days after the chicks so once the chicken eggs go into lockdown just leave the ducks in there. They'll be fine.

I found the first turkey egg yesterday so looks like I'll have quite a mix for my hatch! Chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and quail! Let's hope the guineas get busy laying so I can toss in a few of those too

Mahonri, Thank you for sharing that song... it was so beautiful. I know it is a bit morbid of me, but I keep a mental list of songs to play at my husband's funeral (if he goes before me) because I know when the time comes I won't have the presence of mind to think of what I want. That goes on the list. Whenever a song makes me cry I know it needs to go on the list. I make it seem like I'm dark and depressed... I'm not... I just love my husband so much!! (By the way, we are still young and he isn't sick or anything.

Thank you!!! I have never had both in the bator at once.

How fustrating! So what happened? Do you get them?

After calling everyone they would give me a number to, I called my local PO-- didn't realize they answer the phone 24 hr-- and spoke with Howie on the night shift. The actually called the 2 distribution centers and asked if they were there. they weren't. He said he thought they might have been sent to Memphis on the FED Ex flight and would be on the flight from there over night to RDU. Rather Silly to me as RDU has a FedEX hub and is much closer to Dulles. he promised to call me as soon as they hit the door and he did at 5:15 am yesterday morning making the 350 mile trip and a day and a half and two airplane rides. I picked them up and were non the worse for the long trip. Gary put food and water in with them, but they still dug into the feed and water and were still at it when a checkthem again before going to work that morning. At least I know what to expect when Gary sends me my Coronation Sussex quad in a few months.

I candled all my eggs last night. 100% of my white Ameraucanas are developing. most of the Polish, but none of my cochins

I had to pull a couple of my duck eggs out of the other bator. They had quit a few days ago. I had a temp spike. I think I am going to stick a few more runner and a couple of call duck eggs under my very determined broody later today.

I am off to get ready to leave the house for the day. Going to LA to pick my boy up from the airport..............I guess he really isnt a boy anymore. I can't wait to see him!

OK, I am all caught up again. I am sure it won't be long before I'll need to sit back down for a two cups of coffee catch-up. But for now, I am caught up! Yak away my friends!

Got the oil changed in the Excursion. The Pilot is still at Showcase getting worked on.

I'm moving chickens around today and rehoming some this weekend.
