How cute! Is the little stinker a boy? The one that keeps butting the emu?

He is soo cute Mary. I felt the same way about my goslings. They would simply "scream" if I went out of eyesight.

Why do we get so caught up in our babies?

Gonna get me some more goslings

Don't mention goslings!! I've got another 2 weeks before my eggs hatch and I'm seriously craving some gosling snuggles! If I wasn't so broke I would have already ordered some!

Mary,
LOVED the video! That emu is just tooooo cute! Now call me stupid, but I had to google to see how to sex an emu.... How did you discover the sex of yours?
Instructions:
* 1 Check for the sex of an emu when they are chicks.
* 2 Don rubber gloves and gently pick the emu chick up in your hand.
* 3 Turn the chick upside down, and part the feathers on either side of the vent. Do this gently.
* 4 Apply a little pressure to either side of the vent with your fingers. If a male, the penis will show as a small white stem. If female, the ****oris (a little knob) will be visible.
* 5 Look at the feather pattern at the top of the chick's head, should you not wish to do the above. The male emu will have a bull's eye pattern, and the female will have more of a striped pattern.
* 6 Determine an "it" when no sex organ is visible or when the feather pattern is "salt and pepper". The "its", or emus with no sexual organs, should be rare, and are generally culled for meat.
* 7 Observe adult emus to sex them. The male will grunt like a pig and whistle to their chicks. A female has a developed throat sac which will allow her to make a "booming" sound when mature.

That little tantrum is too stunkin cute. OMG I want an Emu now....several of them but first I will need to file for divorce because that will be the result. hahahahaha

Oh, ditto. Oh my goodness. I sat here with the biggest grin on my face, watching that video!

An old friend of mine used to have four emu and he used to talk about how much they bonded with him, and their little peculiarities. Had I known the chicks were that freakin' adorable, I would have paid more attention!! But that was B.C. for me (Before Chickens) and I wuz ignerent to the ways of poultry.

Good morning Mahonri. Sounds like everyone enjoyed dinner last night. So jealous of SCG to spend a week in AZ. The temps up here have not been bad but I miss AZ so much.
Mary that emu chick video is so cute! I love the goat trying to butt the chick. I would love to get one but I am with Cetawin, I really think DH would either divorce me or go through with his threat of "target practice"

(no he would never really hurt any of the animals because he knows if he did he would be next

) I really love the pic of your DH on the porch with the kids and the chick with the big grin on his face.
Linda, I think it would be safe to post your "fallout" picture on this thread. I sooooo want to see it!

Wow I didn't know that male emus are the ones to sit on the eggs. I thought that your link was going to go to the Rooster Cogburn place near Picacho Peak.
