How many blues & splashes do you have. It is nice to know that your hatch is going so well! Mine has just started ~ I have 1 blue & 1 splash out so far along with 3 bantam cochins, 1 EE and lots of pips!

Got home late from a show last night, and just got caught up...I am so sorry Tricia!! I know you wanted to see him again, but often when they "know", they make sure their loved ones aren't there. My grandmother waited for everyone to "go home for showers/rest" before she passed on...literally minutes after my mom and my grandfather left she gave up and slipped away. Maybe his final days aren't the memories your dad wanted you to have of him. I know it's over-said, but remember the great times your family had all together, and that your dad is always with you, in your heart, and in your kids.

I can safely hold 66 eggs in my two bators, but with stacking I've put in 90 before....

What I have lined up so far:

12 W/BW from pasofino farm. Melissa's birds are just so large, and I want to get some size back into my flock

30+? Icelandics from the Warden

?? Icelandics from KathyinMo

?? surprises from KathyinMo

As many W/BW eggs as I can fit into the bators from my own coop after that! I'll only be putting in the largest, bluest eggs.

I'll probably sell any extra BCMs and W/BW that I have extra to someone local.

I'll be getting my bators out on Monday or Tuesday evening, just so I can see my wife roll her eyes.

Come June, I'll be culling hens from my W/BW flock as well as one of my FBCM hens... the FBCM constantly pics at her feathers and her back is bare!... weird huh?... she also pics from the roo so I'll be rehoming him as well because I have two roos to take his place: one from Chookschicks, the other from Illia... (a beautiful Wheaten Marans)

It has been such a GORGEOUS DAY! It's 11:30AM and it's only 70 degrees out there. 6 eggs so far, got the pool cleaned, wash done, everything ready for Sunday dinner. Rathbone's daughter will be here to pick up eggs to take to CA at 1:30PM... You are getting 18 dear!
Also have another pickup for another 18 W/BW eggs on Tuesday or Wed that will also be going to CA. (luvanimals2)
Wednesday I start saving everything from my coops for Easter Hatch with exception of the EEs, Polish, Leghorn and BCMs.

My 10 year old son has been ill for 3 days, high fever, coughing, I stayed home from Church today to watch him. He'll get up and play on the computer, then he'll lay back down with the covers over him.... wish I could wave a magic wand and make him better... it's hard to see your loved ones ill.

Can't wait to see how our EE roo turns out for Sunday dinner.

Mahonri - Congrats on your son's winning!!! You must be so proud.

SCG - Thanks for sharing the info on the Grand Canyon. I hope to one day see it for myself. Sounds beautiful.

OK....only on page 209. Reading has been hard being home alone with a 7yr old, 2 yr old, and newborn along with a bator full of hatching chicks. Well only 10 more pages to go.

Edited because I'm an idiot!!!

Mahonri, I think a bunch of the packing peanuts with my Blehm order were Wheaten Ams. I'm also thinking there may be other fun surprises in there!

I'd like to join the hatch. I hope I can wait until noon on the 1st! It will be my first time hatching, and subsequently, my first time having chickens! (Hopefully!

) I have two sets of shipped eggs coming to me. They will both be sent Priority on Monday, March 28, so I am hoping they will arrive on that Wednesday or Thursday. Then, a day to rest, and into the incubator! I was thinking of setting them Friday night, but it would be nice to have a group of people to hatch with, so I'll try to restrain myself until noon on Saturday.

I'm getting about 30 hatching eggs: 10+ Barnevelders, 6 Speckled Sussex, 6 Welsummer, and 6 Easter Egger. I know the average hatch rate is 50%, and being my first time, I assume that my hatch rate will most likely be below average. I'd like to get at least 3 or 4 pullets, but would love to have many more - enough to keep a cockerel as well. I bought a Genesis 1588 incubator and automatic turner. I'm hoping to run a short test with some grocery store eggs just to get a handle on things. I might try an abbreviated warm-up, a few days of setting, a few attempted candlings, and a lockdown.

I read the earlier pages and haven't caught up yet, but I believe we were supposed to show a picture. So, here I am with my pup Talli:

I am excited and nervous! This should be fun.
