Well, I'm up. My sleep patterns have been really off, lately. I like the sound of roosters, so they don't wake me up at all. Well, maybe the early crowing just seems normal, and when the Rooster Chorus of fully awake and ranging roosters is what woke me up this late morning. (Hey, I've been up about 2 hours now...)
Emptied and refilled the kiddie pool for the ducks, filled about a gazillion waterers, topped off the feeders, and decided I am gonna put the eldest of the brooding chicks currently in the bathroom outside later after I rest up some. I have to clean out the grow-out coop I've selected for them, first. Some of the ladies have been using it to lay eggs, but nobody has slept in it for a couple of weeks. The TJ's chicks grew out in it, but two weeks after I let them join the flock, they stopped returning to it at night, having found other buddies with which to roost in other coops. Chickens sure are interesting.
Fritzie (and I) lost her BFF, Yul, during the last BIG rainstorm and has been very lonely. (I don't know what happened to Yul, but found him dead in one of the many puddles. He had been one of the coccidia sufferers but recovered, so maybe he was still suffering from low resistance to ... anything.... .) She scoots around and talks to me, but doesn't hang with any of the other chickens.
I have to clean ALL of the incubators today. Taking a drive in the late afternoon to pick up some of Jeremy's eggs. BEAUTIFUL day for the drive to the East Bay!
