Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I gotta tell ya, I'm just not a fan of NNs - BUT, they are growing on me. Two of my olive eggers, their beards have been plucked off most of their throats and are looking very NNish...so, I may soon be a convert...but don't hold your breath! LOL

BHep nice Brahma and I think you are right, he is awfully red in the face for almost four months old. I wound up with one pullet from that hatch and she is still very pale in the face.

Glad to hear your waxed up egg is ok still!

As for my lot: ducks in hatcher, today is day 24 and will be candling a quick one tonight to see how far along they are. About half had internally pipped last night. As these are mutt ducks, I have NO idea how long they will take. Better check the goose eggs to, as I have no idea if they will take the full 30/35 days either. Well, 10/10 duck eggs from start in hatcher so we'll have to see how they go from now...

Got myself today of work (sent hubby in instead) and am off until Monday, so wahey for me!!! Four days off in a row.. it's been a while!!

Reposted from the Icelandic Thread:

I got a chick!!! and 6 more pips!

DD called to tell me so I asked which one hatched so she's looking in the hatcher talking to me and then glances over, "uh, mom, we have a cracked egg in the incubator"

flashback a week or so DS collects eggs, I go out to spring clean the coop and kick all the girls out into the yard. A buff was being broody and when I toss her out I find 6 eggs of verying sizes and colors under her fluffy behind.

DS hasn't been collecting all the eggs I guess. So we take the eggs in and I candle them. One of the blue ones seems pretty developed so I slip it in the bator, the others are marginal so I toss them.

fast forward to Sunday Ex's dog kills chickens including my blue egg layer

Yesterday morning when I moved the Icelandics to the hatcher I didn't think the blue egg was as close to term so I left it in the bator with the turkeys thinking it had another 3 or 4 days to lock down.

OK, now I don't want to put it in the hatcher because I want to know which one it is. So I asked DD to get a rubbermaid bowl and put a piece of self liner in the bottom and put it on the turner in the bator to heat up, in 30 minutes I will have her lay the egg in there so it can hatch and I won't have to worry about the poor chick having to get a leg stuck in the turner.

Here's my one wish: responsibility.

It can be manifested in many different ways but the one that's currently irritating me is not doing what you say you're going to do.

I "sold" 6 pullets yesterday over the phone. Guy said he wanted to come pick them up around 430. His wife gets out of work at 4, he'll call me right after to get the final directions and come pick them up. Being that it's light til about 7 I told him I'd have to cage them up at bedtime so he could get them tomorrow without a fight. I caged them up last night as promised then called him again to confirm.

So today I am waiting, and it's now 445. I decide to call, maybe he lost my number or thought I was going to call him. His wife picks up the phone and says, yup let me get him. Then the line goes dead. I wait a few minutes, then call back. No one answers.

So now because of him these pullets spent almost 24 hours in a cage in my basement. I also had a few more calls about these chickens for sale since then and I've told others they're pending pick up.

Why don't people do what they're supposed to?

I feel your pain. This has happened to me more times than I can count. It makes me mad, too. What would it take to call back and say you have changed your mind, or found a better deal or whatever!

I actually think sometimes it is someone who feels competitive and wants to somehow one up you. I have had someone call and ask me a hundred questions and act really interested, only to find out that they also sell birds and just wanted to jack me around. It sounds petty even typing it out....but I feel better for doing it!

We have instituted a first come first served policy. If you arrive here with cash, first, you get the birds. No matter how nice you sound on the phone, no holding animals for you, if someone arrives before you they're going to be GONE.

Sorry, only a small rant hijack!

I will join the mini-rant session:

Just because the bandwagon has pulled up to the house, it doesn't mean you have to jump on. Sometimes the bandwagon is being driven by someone without a clue.

I'm thinking that this is a good idea.

Thanks for expanding my rant.

And for the record, I'd rather be told the truth, no matter how hurtful it may be, than anything other than the truth.

I agree with what you said about being told the truth, at least then you know how to proceed. I am sorry, this happened to you, and your birds. I think that is what torques me off the most. Penning up the birds so they will be caught when the prospective buyer gets there, for no reason. A waste of your time and distressing to the birds.

It is just so inconsiderate. (Why do people think that your time and effort is of no value?)

Then for them to hang up and avoid your call, too weird.

I am hoping another buyer comes along for you!
