Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

My first pip (1:39 PM EST) is all but out and screaming for friends! Jeepers, that was fast! HAS to be a roo ....

OK well the power is back on thank goodness. I didn't want to have to run the car all night to keep the bator plugged in. Moved it back inside. I will have to post the pictures later since I have to go do my barn chores. I was a little worried about the poult since it wasn't moving at all when we took the bator out to the car. It will now respond when I tap on the lid. It will pick up it's head and look at me. I think it was just a little chilly in there since the temp had already gone down to 88 degrees (I am sure the eggs didn't get that cold, the power was probably only out an hour before we got home and got it plugged into the car). Nothing else has pipped yet. I was really shocked to see that poult out. I am used to my hatches being late.

ETA - Laree DH was able to get the box in the mail so it is FINALLY on it's way to you. Wait until you see it. It is very cute! Enjoy the shredded paper!

Here in Kansas, it is still day 19.

Now we know why all of his are hatching so well, they are a day ahead!

This morning I woke to a single chick out. And while that seems like a great thing, nothing else is happening. So I am in the "I killed the rest of them" mode.

Sooooo, not that I am hovering over my incubator or anything, but when I try to peer into the pip, I see a white-ish sheen, like a membrane. Does it make sense that the outer shell is broken but a membrane is still intact beneath it?

I should probably just hit myself on the head with something and wake up when my incubator is full of fuzzy chicks...

Day 19 here too ... and mine are working like mad! I've have yet to find out if that's a good thing or not.

(Chick number 1 has 3/4 of the top off. Pip number 6 pipping at the narrow end in an egg carton. That surely can't be good ...)

Day 19 here as well... no action... but mine usually hatch on day 20 and quick from pip to zip.

Well, shucks! I am only on day 18 here, a day behind you all, as I set 24 hours late. I am going into lockdown now.
