Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I got chicks! Two out! No action this morning when I went to work, but when I came home a newly hatched chick resting on top of a zipping egg. I have 3 more pips.

Started with 34 eggs and had 20 to make it to lockdown.

Oh oh. I have a mystery chick out.
Kathy, the smallish, pullet looking, tan eggs marked Split; what are they from? I somhow thought they were black Orps split for Lav. Judging by the white beaked, yellow downed chick running around, one is somthing else; though a pipped one appears to have a black chick inside. ?????????????????????

Split is Light Sussex split to Coronation. Should get both Lights and Coronations from them. A black chick? Hmmmm, I can only think that is an Orp (black split to Lavender).

I'll soon know what's in the other; it's started to zip.

I'm sorry that your hatch isn't going well, Mahonri! It's not your fault. Mine isn't great either.

Candled... it's day 14 (for me).... Well I set 96 eggs and have 40 left. That's okay. I just need more experience with my hovabators, I guess. I know what I did wrong.

I...

-handled too much on day #1
-let the eggs sit for too long
-set eggs right when I got back from the beach... I was still in vacation mode, I guess.
-Added too much water
-Didn't know how well my new hygrometers worked

I take blame. Oh well. Now that I know my mistakes, I expect my next hatch to be better! i have one bator full with all of the eggs, now.

ETA: Found an egg covered in yolk...
