One of the "Hershy" colored OE eggs from Kathy that were too dark to candle has pipped, I had no clue if they had developed or not. Here's a pic of them taken before setting; they're the 4 darkest in the turner, and I bet most Marans owners would love to see their pures laying eggs this "olive" color.

How to take pictures of a bajillion active peepers for Mahonri:

Step 1: Constcript husband into chickie model-handling.
Step 2: Place chicks in basket.
Step 3: Be the hen.

Step 4: Quickly take 100+ pictures for one decent shot.

Step 5: Be the hen.

Step 6: Quickly take 200 pictures for one decent shot.

Step 7: Be the hen.

Step 8: Return exhausted models to trailer.

Step 9: Remember to tell husband how much you appreciate him.

Yup, I still have eggs. Just eggs. Pretty darned warm ones, about 99.5, but that's it.


However, I do have a new broody hen: Blue Australorp. She's taken over the big kitty litter nest box on the back porch, the favorite-est one. I suspected it yesterday, now I am sure. I'm leaving the eggs under her this time; I pulled four eggs out yesterday (because I don't usually disturb the ladies IN the nest boxes - I give 'em time to decide to come back outside), but there are two under her right now.

Other progress: all six of Angel's chicks have learned how to make it up the steep, two foot ramp back into the coop!
