You can't pack up your 'bator in SPRING!!! It's UN-NATURAL!!!

Incubators are clean... just need to be put into the box to be stored... gotta pull the batteries out of all of the thermometers and hygrometers.

Winners of cutest chick pics will be announced by Thursday evening or before.

I'm still looking for nominations of overall Best Hatch Participant.

PM me with your nominees.

Well I know I missed the cutest chick contest, but had to work late and couldn't upload until now. Here was my entry:

The chick from this hatch was actually the duckling, the chick hatched last week. I got 9 out of 72 set. No quail, 1 goose from broody, 1 duckling, and 7 chicks one of which I think is dying. Not sure how it happened but I had shrinkwrapped chicks and some that drowned.

Good morning Mahonri and all you crazy hatchers out there!

Been busy the past couple of days. DH is working nights until this crazy Utah weather settles down and he can get a night flight. Hopefully we will have nice enough weather to fly today. I am tired of the cloudy, rainy, windy, snowy, cold weather here. I am fully convinced that one of two things are going to happen. Either we are going to skip spring and jump straight into summer weather or it is never going to warm up here and all the snow in the mountains is going to start forming glaciers. Either could happen.

My little ones from this hatch are doing great. The poults are teaching the chicks to come running to my hand when I put it down in the brooder. So adorable.
love.gif
I have also cleaned out the bator and put it away for this year. I have more chicks than I have housing for right now so that is going to be my next project. DH says he is coming up with ideas but I have yet to hear one other than he concedes that we will need another big coop.

I did score a "ginormous" wooden box from work. We receive our new airplanes (mind you these are not big airplanes) in wooden boxes and once they have been flown they don't go back into the boxes so I was able to get one the other day. I am going to use it to keep the turkeys in once the chicks can go out. Lotsapaints let me know that they need to be kept draft free for at least three months to get feathered out. This box is so big it could almost hold them until they are fully grown.
Kinda sad to see the thread winding down but I have to say this has been just as much fun as the NYD hatch! The stories, the pictures, the contests, the ups, the downs, the laughs and the heart felt prayers for those who have needed it during these months has been wonderful. I agree with Wolfie, this is much more like an extended family than just a thread to follow on a web site. Thank you all for such a wonderful time! I can't wait to see how the chicks grow and you all have to promise to share pictures of them. They grow so fast! Good luck to everyone still waiting for the end of contests and congratulations to the newly announced winners to finished contests.

So we are still waiting on the announcement of:
Who had the cutest chick picture
Who had the first chick?!!
Total number of eggs hatched guess
Who had the best license plate
Who had the best rooster crowing

And we're still accepting submissions for:
Best hatch participant (get your votes to Mahonri in a PM)

And on a slightly sappy note (and then I'll stop, I promise): it was a pleasure to get to know you guys better. I really enjoyed watching and reading the excitement of the first time hatchers (and some not-so-first-timers). I'd like to extend my condolances to everyone who had a bad hatch or a chick die, but the best part of a hatchalong is the support you get from others. I hope everyone here felt that comraderie.

And I hope I spelled everything right... yup I was on call last night.

Congrats to all of the winners and hugs to those who did not have good hathes.

Morning all!

So sleeepy....need coffee.

Did I remember to tell you yesterday's kiddo quote?

Little one, pointing at smoke detector: "Noisy go beepbeep scary, wedowedo momma cooking up high!"
Older one, "No, it's not the fire alarm, it's just the chicks beeping."
