Hun, live in the deep Pacific Northwest in the winter. THEN you know what is ugly. We're talking ankle deep mud everywhere, every day, until early summer.

When our house burned down, we 'test drove' Portland for a week and looked at houses...(got nothing but an insurance check, why not?)
I quickly discovered that my car-sickness (oy, the hills!) and seasonal depression (seriously? sun from 10-1:30 daily??) did not mesh with that part of the world. I'd be vomiting and looking for ever-increasing quantities of Prozac.
The moss on the roofs? Wicked strange compared to the parched world we live in during the summer. We get TONS of rain briefly in the spring, complain, get a tornado and a hailstorm, then it's 80% humidity and 98* for 3 months, then rain and storms, then brown and cold but dry, then 15* or less and deep snow. Neato, huh?

And despite that your Prozac dose hasn't escalated?

The beauty of the climate here is that it may be bitter and it may be violent, but there is lots of sun for most of the year. Even when it storms we usually have sun part of the day, and it's sunny from ~6am to ~9pm in the summer, so I'm only heavily medicated and glued to sunlamps about 2 mos of the year!!

I think that is part of the reason I miss AZ so much. It might be hot and dry but at least you could count on most days being sunny. Monsoon season with it's thunderstorms were always my favorite part of the year. Morning sunny, mid-day ginormous thunderstorms then the gorgeous sunsets. Rinse, repeat the next day. Here if the sun comes out, we wonder what that bright ball in the sky is.

Since my shamos didn't hatch, I want to try again. I don't suppose you're gonna be selling any very soon? I'd like to get some in with the eggs i'm getting as my consolation. I'll be darn if I don't have shamos and silkies, if I have to hatch them every batch until they hatch!! I love them sooooo much! lol... so if you are, I'd love to buy some from you. The guy I got them from sold me very porous eggs.
I have about 4-5 people already asking me and I'll say the same - She's not laying now, or if she is, it is in a secret stash somewhere in the barn (which even if it was so, why not the secret stash my other two "feral" hens are using?) - So sorry, but no. I will keep you in mind when she starts again though!
Well the naughty hen!! If she does cooperate, please do keep me in mind!

Now I understand Happy Valley so much better.
I loved AZ, as well- we considered Tucson at that time, and somewhere around PHX, but even having grown up in Casa Grande, I still couldn't appreciate the lack of water once I got used to having a real garden. I like to go mushroom hunting in the woods...that won't be happening in AZ much. I'll visit, though! Grama and Grampa live in Sun City.

I wash mine out with hot soapy water, rinse, then wipe it down with a bleach water solution, then rinse really good. Then I let it air dry for a day before putting it away. If I had Oxine I would use it but I don't have any right now.
