Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

the showgirls are part silkies and part naked neck. the silkies are bantems and the naked neck are both in the full size and bantam size. it looks like the breeder used the the bantam size for both breeds. the silkies are small to begin with, I know because I had the silkies and HATED THEM!!!!!

Looks like my thought process was slightly behind yours. Thanks for verifying me.

I have a banty outside that holds her own with the rest of the large fowl flock, I'm hoping these can integrate in too or I'm going to have basement chickens.

Glad to hear Raz is feeling better, and good luck with your hatch!

SCG, I hope your flu-like illness goes away quickly. That PigPen is so hysterical looking! I'm betting she has healing powers.

I was so worried that they wouldn't develop after being unplugged for who knows how long. Next week I hope to move our newest hen (the one that showed up in the yard) out with the RIRs. She had leg mites but the scales on her feet still don't look normal. I need to move her so that the chicks from my last hatch can go in the cage we have her in and I can clean out the brooder.

Anyone familiar with showgirls? Are they supposed to be super small?

This is PigPen, who was born during Mahonri's New Years Hatch... so (s)he's 8 weeks old. She's the same age as her litter mates, the speckled sussex. It's like the showgirls just aren't growing anymore. They're on 22% protein crumbles.

On my hand:

In the brooder with the SS giants

In a box with a fox(y speckled sussex)

I'm actually thinking about just putting the SS out in the coop (I was hoping to keep them a family) and put these guys in with my two week olds. Any thoughts?
Pigpen is so cute!!!!! They are about the size of a Silkie.

I'm all set! Can we start yet? Oh wait... no.. still have chicks in the brooders. :p

I am hoping to set some of superRx's EE/NN, some chanteclers and australorps and my o so wonderful mutts. Numbers to be determined!

My NYD hatch chicks and valentine's chicks are doing great! Isn't addiction fun? =)

Oh, and super RX - love that showgirl. I had one once but had to sell him/her because I had to get rid of the rest of the silkies. Just too much work!

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. Now that I've gotten some Chloraseptic throat drops, ibuprofen and Imodium into me, I feel like a new woman.

Pig Pen is adorable! Such a skinny neck and big eyes...... I hope it's a girl so you can keep her!! Love the Dr. Seuss reference too!

I was trying to keep my boys from knowing about silkies and showgirls. THey will now be begging me for a silkie. I have to draw the line somewhere but I can still enjoy looking at he cuties.
