Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. Now that I've gotten some Chloraseptic throat drops, ibuprofen and Imodium into me, I feel like a new woman.

Their wing feathers are growing in white, so I would guess it is temporary. I never would have guessed they inject dye into the eggs, and I believe it is illegal in many states to sell colored chicks and ducks.

The ones at the fair where injected with dye. I know becaues I had seen them hatching out colored.

Out of 15 eggs i had 4 silkies to hatch sunday they will be moved to brooder this afternoon they were still a little wet this morning. I had 3 more to pip but died during the hatching do not know why the last 2 hatches i have done has been so bad i do everything the same way each time and the first 4 hatches i have done always resulted in a 90% to 100% hatch rate but these last two times has sucked the only thing i did different this time is use a egg turner since i got a new job and would not be home to turn by hand like i have done in the past i used the egg turner this time. hope to have better luck this next time

Well, my silkies just started laying a few weeks ago. I've been checking the eggs for fertility when I crack them and they have a bullseye. None of them have wanted to go broody yet. I figure they are just too young. My leghorns could care less and my mutts haven't decided to be broody yet either. Maybe they are too young, too. I'm not sure. My big momma mutt hen who is the matriarch would probably go broody if I didn't steal her eggs everyday. Maybe I should let her hatch some or maybe I'll get me a little brinsea incubator.
