Caught up and marking my spot. I feel a lot better today. Curiosity got the best of me last night and I candled my eggs. All 10 are developing!!!!

Well, my silkies just started laying a few weeks ago. I've been checking the eggs for fertility when I crack them and they have a bullseye. None of them have wanted to go broody yet. I figure they are just too young. My leghorns could care less and my mutts haven't decided to be broody yet either. Maybe they are too young, too. I'm not sure. My big momma mutt hen who is the matriarch would probably go broody if I didn't steal her eggs everyday. Maybe I should let her hatch some or maybe I'll get me a little brinsea incubator.
You have time to buy an incubator, or make one. Go for it!!Well, my silkies just started laying a few weeks ago. I've been checking the eggs for fertility when I crack them and they have a bullseye. I read a pdf yesterday that said all eggs have a bulls eye--The important thing is the size--I think it said the bullseye needed to be 1/8 of an inch or larger.
I set 40 Dorking eggs from one rooster 9 days ago with no development. I also set 20 eggs from a different rooster with about 60% development. They were supposed to be fertile, but they aren't. It turns out that this rooster my have never been fertile or had low fertility but now at three years old has none.
The eggs were checked and the Breeder thought they were fertile. Probably saw a Bullseye but not a big enough one.
Anyone familiar with showgirls? Are they supposed to be super small?
This is PigPen, who was born during Mahonri's New Years Hatch... so (s)he's 8 weeks old. She's the same age as her litter mates, the speckled sussex. It's like the showgirls just aren't growing anymore. They're on 22% protein crumbles.
On my hand:
In the brooder with the SS giants
In a box with a fox(y speckled sussex)
I'm actually thinking about just putting the SS out in the coop (I was hoping to keep them a family) and put these guys in with my two week olds. Any thoughts?
Pig Pens is sooooooo cute and fluffy!! My boys love her. ANd the 3 legged SS brought gales of laughter! Are these hatchery SS or breeder SS? Wel,, which ever they are much larger than PP.
