If you're serious send me a PM. How big is your bator? I can fill it for you! Mostly I have mixed breeds, but I might be able to get you a couple pure Iowa Blues and some Iowa Blue/Ameraucana crosses. Just pick your egg color!

Re-cleaning my incubators today and moved the valentine's chicks out of the house. Whew! They are actually in my barn with the NYD chicks, but in a dog cage to protect them. Just need to finish getting the bators set up and then I'm ready (once I get my eggs). I noticed my BO finally having his way with my leghorns, so I definitely need to throw a few of those eggs in the mix - maybe I can get giant brown eggs out of the mix.

I've got a Leghorn/EE cross who lays huge tinted eggs; I'm crossing her back to another EE so maybe I can get some hens who lay huge BLUE eggs...

I don't get it. I just added the water to my bator for lockdown. The windows are fogging up but my hydrometer says 30%. It was at 25% during the dry part. Is my hydrometer broken?

Exactly why I dont use one. I dry incubate then at lock down , I just fill the water chambers and go. They never work right and I check it every 30 seconds, as if it may suddenly start working proper. Drives me nuts... too much stress.

Are they mean, Michelle? They are so big ! ! !

They are HUGE! But they are like cows, For the most part they don't really care about anything but if they get agitated they are a really strong force to be reconed(sp) with. And like all good mommas, get between a cow and a calf and look out! This gals been around the block a few times, nothing startles or scares her. She was laying in the sun by the compost last week and let the dog get right up to her and smell her. I'd rather he keep her out of the pasture but if she won't be scared off at least she won't attack.

2 women, in separate instances, were stomped by moose last week. They were not doing anything wrong, didn't even see them coming and WHAM - Hooves of fury! They are not mean but they can be deadly.

We have this problem big time at my house. This is why we only free range while we are home. I think there is a website somewhere that posts Drop off your unwanted dog here and lists my address. I even saw a guy do it once and tried to catch up to him with my car, but he really took off then. Gahhhh.......... People please dont ever drop your dog off in the country it is not a pretty death for them!

Ok...I will get off my soap box now...

I feel for, after a dog related loss DH asked what could be done to protect the birds. I suggested a Livestock Guardian Dog. He bought me 2. The first one, a male, is 8 months old, the second one, a female, is 6 weeks old and will ship to us in the next couple weeks.

Besides dogs we have moose and bear so having just one dog, the dog would be a deadly disadvantage. I'm hoping they will help with the predatory birds as well, since my Icelandics free range. It's a skill only some LGD's learn so only time will tell.

Here's my boy, He's a Maremma, the left is about 8 or 9 weeks, the right is 7 months.
