Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Michelle, maybe I'm just tired but what is that dark hexagon thing?

It looks like a tower from an airport only shorter.

Kathy, so sorry about your Dellie hen. Don't feel bad about feeling bad and sharing your hurt. We all need

sometimes, and that is what we are here for. Keeping

that both your emu eggs hatch. I think the chicks are adorable but really don't have the room for them here. Besides I think my silly horses would FREAK if I got some.
Mahonri, did your DS make it to Lehi OK? When I went to work yesterday morning, the roads weren't too bad and by the afternoon they were dry. Adorable puppies BTW

SCG totally understand about the getting up before the alarm. I was up an hour before mine this morning. UGH would have loved to sleep that extra hour.

here is a tip that I will be using for this hatch, It's called a pedigree basket. To make it you need : 1/4 to 1/2 inch hardware cloth, bent to form a box 4 inches to 6 inches square and about 2 inches high. Cut a cover to fit and hinge one edge with wire. now for me, I am going to make the box bigger and HIGHER so that as the chicks hatch, they will have the head space to move any where they please. you do not need to put the box in until lockdown so you will have time to make them. Oh, and I will be using zip ties to keep the box from opening as they hatch. On how to mark the chicks, I use zip ties on the legs, wing bands and color markers on the chicks. I will be making the boxes soon so if anyone would like to see pics of the boxes, let me know on here and I will post pics for all of you to see!!!!!

NOT SURE IF I MADE THE POST COME UP, SO I AM POSTING THIS FOR YOU!!!

So sorry about Floozy, Kathy. It is really hard to lose a pet with big personality!

Adorable puppies, Mahonri's!

AKMichelle, It's hard to notice that big moose with those stunning mountains right behind her. I spent 2 weeks in Homer one June, and loved seeing the alpenglow on those mountains.

I thought of you this morning SCG. At 2 a.m., I woke up because our dying cat that we didn't think could even climb stairs anymore climbed all the way up to our bedroom. I carried her back down to her cat bed and sat with her a bit, and thought, man, SCG will be getting up soon. Turns out you were already up. It will be a long day for me too. I couldn't get back to sleep.

Have a great day everyone! :)

dsqard: Yes my DS made it... He left here about 5:45AM and got to West Valley City, (where my wife's parents live) about 4:30PM.

He missed the turn off for highway 20 just past Panguitch and so he traveled up Highway 89 through Circleville/Marysvale/Richfield, Salina, Gunnison, Levan to Nephi where he finally got on I-15. He said the traffic just south of Provo was horrible as they are doing construction there. He said it snowed off and on from Kanab through Richfield.

He delivered some items to a gal from Hungary in Magna (DS spent the last two years in Hungary)

Tomorrow and Friday he'll be doing job interviews in Provo. He starts school at the "Y" (BYU) in April. He has almost enough credits to be a Junior now.

On Friday he also gets to visit DS#3 in Provo who is in the MTC and who will be flying to Mexico on Monday to areas around Veracruz and Xalapa where he will spend the next two years. (In July his mission splits and he'll be assigned to either Veracruz or Xalapa)

Until he finds a place to live in Provo, he'll be staying either with his grandparents in WVC or with my brother in Genola (where I grew up)... Genola is on the south end of Utah Lake.

More info than any of you would want to know.

Today and tomorrow I teach "Seminary" a religious class for high school students at Shadow Mountain HS. the class runs from 6:15AM to 7:00AM, then its work, (Drill, fill & bill) Thu, Fri, & Sat. and then after work on Saturday, DW and I are taking some neighbors on a trip up to Snowflake (Boston Bryce territory) for a wedding and then back. Tonight is the choir concert for DSs #4 & #5 so I won't be teaching my class in Spanish tonight... I gotta sub. And between now and then I've got to find time to put a Sunday School Lesson together for Sunday morning.

Ain't life grand?!?!?!?!

Did I ever show y'all this pic of my little girl?

It went global on Reuters back in December....

I'm so lucky I married a red head... I got two boys with auburn hair and a little girl with red hair, just like her mamma!
What a cutie Mahonri! Love that red/gold hair - my daughter is a red head too though hers is very dark.

My day has been eventful. Not delightfully so, but eventful, none the less.

I did sell 2 pens of roosters. That makes me 40 roosters less, and 2 more open pens.

I lost my favorite Delaware hen. Floozy died. I am so sad.

I am not one to be sentimental towards my chickens, generally. I rarely name them. Floozy was special. I will miss her......... ALOT.

I have been thinking about it. I think it was fate. I would have never considered selling Floozy or Oliver. They were my best Delaware pair. Floozy is gone now, so really..... I don't need Oliver now. Maybe I can part with him now. I have my projects (Delawares) to work on, so I think I will sell Floozy's pen.

Sorry about Floozy Kathy - beautiful girl. And I love that name! Some chickens just have so much personality that you just can't help but get attached to them. Please do post some pics when your emu eggs hatch. I would love to see them.

That is this Sunday...you have 3 days to get over there and make your guess!!

We only need 10 more hatchers to reach the 200 mark!

I don't get it. I just added the water to my bator for lockdown. The windows are fogging up but my hydrometer says 30%. It was at 25% during the dry part. Is my hydrometer broken?
