Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I keep telling my husband that he needs to join and star a thread along the lines of, "Support group for spouses of poultry addicts"
I can just see the posts... DW has left me for Mahonri again... Or we're spending our date night on the Oklahoma thread.... Or my favorite... My wife just put something kind of like a kiwi in the bator... Anyone know what that is?

LOVE IT ! ! !

Well, my brother surendered the game for the night, so I'm off to vegg on it. I've got 3 eggs left in the bator that'll hatch tonight or tomorrow (or at least I HOPE they do). I'll post another couple pics of the fuzzies tomorrow... after we go to the feed store and get more.

With that said I'll leave you all with this rediculos screen cap I took an hour ago. And yes, that is indeed my media player.

Welcome to BYC and the hatch-a-long neighbor. Have you found your way over to the okies thread yet? 62 eggs! My goodness! I need to increase my guess! What are you setting?

Thanks. I have found that! Blue Ameraucanas (8) and black, blue and white Silkies. I didn't know I was getting so many eggs! One breeder gave me an extra dozen! So I just seen this contest and I see it says to set on the 17th. Since mine came in today I guess I can't set on the 17th right? I'm new to this. Been depending on my dad for help lol.

Quick update:

Yesterday my 2nd to last patient (she's been with me for over 20 years) who is a trauma nurse/physicians assistant came in because she needed to have an old crown re-cemented. Of course my chairside told her what had happened to me and she was writing me scrips before she left, and was typing out care instructions on my computer for me.

I do have some pretty significant 2nd degree burns on my lower left abdomen and upper left thigh. It's pretty painful and VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.

There are other unmentionable areas that are extremely painful and all I can do is pray. She warned me that if I get an infection in that area with my diabetes, I could end up in the hospital with an IV for weeks. CAN'T DO THAT! I've washed my hands more and the things I touch more in the past two days than any two days in my life. When I walk in from the coop, or time with the dog and her pups, I WASH UP BIG TIME. And I wash EXTRA time between patients now, I have separate towels in the house, and use LOTS of paper towels in the office. The TN/PA says my worst nightmare would be MRSA and that if I got that, I might want to start putting things in order. Serious stuff.
At present I'm on Percocet with a Vicodin chaser, aspirin and high doses of Vitamin C and globs of neosporin where the skin has sloughed off and I have raw, red meat showing through.

Folks, LEARN FROM ME. If you cook something, LEAVE it in the Microwave or on the stove(with the heat off) until it has cooled enough not to be dangerous. I'm so glad this didn't happen to one of my kids and let me tell you, after watching me go through this they are VERY careful with hot/warm food. We've now had chats about bacon grease, hot oil, hot water etc.. ) All it would have taken is 2 minutes for me to WAIT for it to cool down and I wouldn't have gotten the severe burns that I got.

Even if ONE of you thinks of my mistake anytime in the future and it saves you from the pain I'm going through, then it will be worth the pain I'm going through right now. If you have kids or grandkids, TALK TO THEM ABOUT Mahonri! Use me as a bad example! Save someone from pain!
All of that said, I have faith in your prayers. I know that God answers heartfelt prayers... if you can continue to remember me when you are thanking the Lord for all of the multiple blessings we receive in this greatest country on earth, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks..

next post egg update.

Where's your Silvadene?? It's significantly better for a MUCH FASTER HEALING BURN than antibiotic ointment. Please take it from a former sous chef with many years of experience.

Laree very cute ducklings. If they weren't so messy, I would be tempted but I MUST RESIST.

HortonFarms you have all just reminded us what we will all be seeing in a little over three weeks. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!

Mahonri, glad to hear that you are getting some good medicine and thank you for the advice. I know I will be thinking about this the next time I take a hot pot off the stove (and no Linda, I am not being a suck up

) I hope she gave you a scrip for the Silvadene. Really is great stuff. I hear you about you being glad that it wasn't one of the kids. I think you would have felt more pain if it had happened to your DD. Prayers to you to get better fast!

AKMichelle, what kind of turkey eggs you got? I am definitely in on the apres Paques dindon eclore (prolly put those in the wrong order, high school French was YEARS ago

) I would love to get another heritage breed.
See??

We're going to be 91* tomorrow, with a relative humidity of 81%. We won't turn on our air because it will only be in the 80s the rest of the week and I'm going to force the girls to go outside and help me plant. If the air is on they'll try to stay in the house.

Yes, this is what Mahonri was saying just four weeks ago. We are at 4655 now.

Pshaw!! That's scanty compared to what it will be...we aren't even really chatty yet!

DH swears he hates the hatching and the chickies, and the dust, and the poop...but after my first successful hatch and the chicks were downstairs in the basement in the brooder, they knocked over their water container and he comes running upstairs and yells get some towels and heating pad and runs back down. I dont' know whats going on I freak out and go down there and he has 20 something chicks in his arms and they are soaking wet and shivering. Some of them were flopped over and stiff and barely breathing, a few were just a little cold. DS was 3 months old at the time and screaming upstairs, and DH tells me to take care of my son and he'll take care of my chicks. He has the better ones sitting on the heating pad, the bad ones in his shirt against his skin and the ones I thought were goners for sure in his hands he sits there for over an hour blowing hot air into his hands. Every single one survived. Soooo...I'm thinking he doesn't hate them as much as he says he does.

Welllllllll......

LOL... they like to act like they want to hate them but they don't want anything to happen to them either.

I'm definately not the person to ask lol but everyone has been saying that you eggs should rest atleast 24 hours. If you decide to put them in before sat, that is fine you still get to participate in the hatch. Make sure to go thru post #1 and fill out the form and look at contests.

Mahonri, those burns sound atrocious...are you afraid of the hospital? But the meds must be working because you 'sound' much better.
VERY, VERY afraid. I've had two friends pick up MRSA in the hospital in the last year. One of them was 45 years old. The other is still alive and battling it with IVs and vacuum pumps.
