if others sources don't work out I have 3 Bourbon Red hens old enough to lay soon. Soon as they think winter is over, that is. !

THey are very gentle birds; my kids herd them (8 toms and hens) each night in to the safety of their coop. Oddly it's the hens that stalk my cat, not the toms. Go figure!

Sad morning this morning, just got back from taking DD to school and found one of my rabbits dead and another one missing. I am seriously dreading telling the kids......

THose are the hardest days, the dread of what to say and when. Sorry for the loss.

I have on occasion be fortuant to find a missing rabbit, during the mayhem apparently one scooted off to hide while other buddies . . . It's a tough situation--I feel for you.

I kept this up yesterday and in and out with my chores read everytime I came in about 75 to 100 posts... I catch up last night go to bed wake up to 175 more posts!! YIKES I am gonna at some point STOP reading every word yall write! lol (not really just kidding) can't do it.

had coffee and now on to chicken chores...oh yeah and horses and donkeys..cats and dogs too

Yup, me too. I can't keep up with the posts and the manure! I have to pick one! ANd the other piles up!

My partner in Chicken Math gets pink eggs from his EEs. He also gets a light plum colored one -- sort of a frosty overlay on a pink-brown egg that makes it look purplish. He can't wait for the Marans to start laying, and he wants to find chickens that lay a golden/brown egg. He's crazier about colored eggs than I am.

They are actually a tan color I guess. They are Silkie eggs. I took it with my phone so it's crappy quaility. I'll take pictures with my actually camera when I put them in the incubator.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do think some EE's sometimes have a pinkish color egg??? Anyone know if this is true or not?

We couldn't survive without our cats. We inherited 20+ wild cats with our farm and I've got most of them caught and fixed since. Got the last wild momma trapped with her new litter of 5 in the garden shed now and will get her spayed before she is released again. Wish I could ship out some kittens! They are well fed, but great hunters for the most part. I certainly get lots of presents. Nothing hunts like a momma cat feeding her litter, but I find spayed females do better than my lazy neutered males. I do watch out for chicks, and have to accasionally yell at a couple for trying to play with the chickens while I'm doing chores, but no one seriously goes after them. In some cases I'm more concerned for the cats! The young Iowa Blue especially will go after them
