Oh on a side note. For all of you trying to help me succeed with a hatch...

1) incubator has held at 99.8 steady for 3 days no variation at all.
2) humidity is 27 empty will it go up with eggs in it? Will that be too low for dry hatch?
3) I could not find a water weasel, I looked at 2 walmarts, toys r us, party galaxie, dollar general and the science museum someone assured me had them. I will probably find them Easter Sunday. Instead I put water in 2 ziplocks and put a thermometer between, surprisingly this is just a shade warmer. Right at 100. Any thoughts on that?
4) air cells on shipped eggs. I was surprised to see that most looked pretty good. I had a couple that were not as perfectly round, but where they should be. Still leave the turner off?
5) yippee, ordered the brinsea spot check thermometer and it's on it's way. Won't be here by tomorrow though.

No matter what, the eggs go in tomorrow, please, please, please let it work this time!

Mahonri????? Dude what can I say???? I was burned badly whn I was little but young skin. It's kind of a weird looking patch now. You have to be related to me. These kinds of things happen so often in my family. I think we're cursed. I'm just glad that I was so young that now I remember it hurt like hell, but I don't remember the real pain anymore. Wish you didn't have to deal with this. And take care of it! We want you well!

Since we have show and tell I get to participate. This is a minute after they removed the stitches.


Thing is mine is cool and I can now set off metal detectors at will. HA!


OK enough of that



Now for the

I'm going to be candling another failed hatch. I have 3 chicks out and nothing more. Time to clean the hatcher for the next batch, so I have room in the Sportsman. The next

situation is, I got home about 8 and went out to get eggs. Brought in 2 and went to set them in a basket with some others and dropped the whole basket. Lost 17 eggs maybe more. I was to busy cleaning up smashed egg to keep good count.

So depending on what I get in the morning before we set, I have 88 eggs. Hopefully I'll get a couple more. Figures I dropped most of the Lav AMs, some FBCMs and my Silver Phoenix. I think I dropped SPPRs, but they look like some of my project eggs, so maybe they will surprised me. I just really made a huge mess.

So here are the breeds I'm setting and numbers of a couple will be iffy since the mix up with the 2 breed's eggs.

Why oh why did I have to stumble upon the fact that Friesian chickens are So cool... and in my size range... and great layers... and not able to be found anywhere in the US. I've looked everywhere I think. Now I'm on a mission to find some Friesians. Anyone know why no one has imported a flock to the US yet? If they did why they aren't advertising eggs so I can satisfy this incredible urge to buy some. *sigh* To think I just talked hubby into Seramas... he might kill me yet.

Also... during this whole searching frenzy I went on I was wondering if it is possible to ship eggs over seas. Will they allow it? Will the eggs make it? Will it cost an arm and a leg? lol

I'm kidding. My husband has been very tolerant of my bird addiction and is actually quite the enabler. Buying eggs though was the dumbest thing he has ever heard (he suprised me with an incubator) I think he may be coming around to my way of thinking though lol.

you can ship eggs over seas but they will NOT MAKE THE TRIP!!!!!!!! any birds and eggs in and out of the USA must go through a waiting period to make sure they have no diseases that the USA does not have and yes it will cost an arm and a leg. that is why it takes so long to bring new breeds over here. I know because I have been looking for full size gold duckwing welsummers and can only find the small ones.

To bad you couldn't send incubating instructions with them lol. I figured it was a pain in the neck to get birds across seas... just didn't know which parts were the hold up.

Lawd, I'm itching to throw some eggs in. The weather up north here is fair and on the verge of fantastic. Yeah, spring fever is in the air. Trout ice fishing ends today and I don't think many places with ice will be much fun fishing after this. Are lows for next week are like 40 F. Far too soon for this spring sun and will definitely pay for it in early April. It means a terrible year for Syrup unless those that are ready for mid winter thaw took advantage, was over a month of perfect conditions...yeah, they took advantage. Thank goodness as I don't mind paying more for gas as there's no alternative quite as yet but the alternative to pure syrup is certainly not an option! Colored corn syrup may be OK for my kids (who don't appreciate true goodness) but will never settle quite right by me.

Ugggh, pay more for yummy maple syrup!! Sigh, at least it is worth every drop... unlike that icky stuff we put in the gas tanks.

Got my eggs from Arielle and BHEP today. Great packing and received in great condition. They are now resting until tomorrow. Hopefully the rest of my eggs will show up soon.

Still enjoying my BHep eggs... Two cute little chickies dashing about. Well, ok, they are actually getting close to 3 months, and I do hope they lay pretty eggs soon. You have been warned to start knitting some scarves, yes??

There are Friesan chickens??? That is not something I needed to know. Do they have feathers on their legs, just like the horses??




And, I fear, my guess on how many eggs will be set for the Brinsea prize was way low. Maybe by a gazillion even.
