Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Okay, all the new entries are now on the Most Ingenious Chicken Design Contest page. We have 12 awesome, helpful entries so far! Please let me know if I've missed anyone.

Mallory2013, yes, those are veins that you see.

Interestingly, I see the development in the top of the egg on those in the turner, but when I candled one lying on its side on the bottom, it showed the same pattern of development, but on the side which was facing up. I'm going to see tonight if it has switched to the other side from being turned.... I'm learning, which was my goal!

omgosh this is getting embarrasing! You guys are the ones that rock! I have been truely feeling horrid....all of you thinking Im so BRAVE and Im (secretly) just to stupid to BE scared Or I was enraged which is NO BETTER definatly NOT what I tell me kids! But sensless killing is beyond understandable...and surely that hawk KNEW it couldnt carry three chickens! I dunno...I love being wicked anything! lol Cant I AT least win a dang contest with those pics? and yes my face said it all in those pics my daughter wanted me to hold it up and it was all I could do, as I didnt even want to touch the foul thing...there is no pride in the fact that I am holding it. I am only restraining it until calls are made.I couldntcage it cause then someone would or could get hurt taking it out...couldnt set it down...and I noticed later in one pic...I have my fingure between the legs so they dont rub together like when you hold chickens...WHAT WAS I THINKING? I DID want pics taken just cause how many people actually can say they did that?

and thank you dsqard!! very sweet of you
Cliff notes version for those who can't keep up. This is only up to today.

PM's to Laree to fix mistakes
Back to waiting and chatter
One big update for today that I think deserves it's own line:

I have to say that those pics of you holding the hawk are amazing. You are WICKED AWESOME!!!!

I dunno it got a taste for chicken now and that they are easy pickings....can it find its way back? once it knows it can do that isnt it apt to do it again? you know something I thought of...one ofa hawks favorite foods is rabbit....silkies look like rabbits maybe? i dunno....one of my darned silkies is even named Bunny...dunno it wasnt eating.! AND there is ANOTHER HAWK IN THE ****** PASTURE!

agree with Arlielle, with alittle luck that hawk won't enter a building again.

Wow, busy day here!

I hope Princess recovers. Splenda is very pretty.

Arielle, I would drive up the drive because I would want to meet you and see your flock and talk chickens with you......maybe not the answer you wanted...........

Beautiful mountain pic........

Stop fussing over the brief temp changes.......patience.......listen to all those telling you about their experiences

I know there is more but................I just couldn't do the multi quote thing over so many pages. I hate when work gets in the way of my "chickening"!!

Heres my entries for the most ingenious design

Chicken Bed- AKA the deck

Chicken Bunker Coop- Aka basement window protector thingie

And who says chickens want to roost on the highest point, in a coop, or don't like being below ground!!! And as you can see...their bunker coop is immediately next to their unused coop.

Chic, I got some heavy guage poultry netting off of Ebay to cover my run, a month ago watched a large hawk bounce off it while trying to strike my birds. There are several guages of netting, and the heavier ones are well worth the extra expense - that should keep this from happening again. They can be purchased in various sizes as well.

Try here:

And I applaud you for not killing the hawk, I think she would have eaten her kill given the chance, as hawks are not random killers like skunks or weasels.
