Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Sounds yummy, do I need to use a different yeast?

No, use the same yeast. The recipe looks fine. I did try Italian flour(from KAF of course) but I did not care for it. I guess I am too much of an American. I use the bulk yeast from Costco and the Organic AP flour they sell. That reminds me, it is almost time for more of those....another trip to Costco(Ok, the store is two miles from my house)

Edited to add: you don't need the sugar. Part of the flour will break down to sugar.

Cardamom...loaf pan? YEAST FROM AIR??? I'm in wayyyy over my head. Soooo...even though did my shine through the top no holding candle last night...I did it again tonight on my hovabator eggs that have been cooked twice. Highest was 107...sooo I jsut wanted to confirm what I knew to be true. That they were cooked. But NOPE! I was wrong. The ones that were good last night are still dancing away tonight. Yay!!!

Here's something to make you smile. Why mommy shouldn't try to build a feeder in the living room.

Too cute!

You're brave-- start with the baguette recipe. Simple. You will learn as you go. and if it's not fit for human consumption, give it to your dog! And try again.

YES, SHE IS... everyone that comes into my back yard asks about her. Finally I can tell them that she is laying!

And she is HUGE... I need to put her on a scale, truly she is GIGANTIC... I only have one bird bigger than her... a Black Jersey Giant...but I'd still bet that Sally weighs more.

Now I need to go out and get a pic of the New Hampshire that I hatched from Kathy's eggs. She's big and beautiful too.

I did hatch 3 BEAUTIFUL Barred Rocks from her eggs, but wouldn't you know it, they were all roos. Two were sold for breeding. One was purchase for a meal... and they raved about how delicious he was.

I have eaten alot of those Barred Rocks, too. They ARE delicious!

OMG I totally GET it!!! I guess we could cull....but its a life and the babies instintively trust us...I TRY and save every one I can...people we know bring us chicks to try and save...its what we do...if we can't...then so be it...I DO wish I had some form of euthenasia that would be quick and painless and less dramatic than "off with the head"...just seems sooo hard after you have given your all to save them...I would prefer to not to kill them harshly....as much for me as them...I have no problem freezer camping so am not so soft I can't DO sustainable farming, BUT I DONT WANNA kill chicks!
I think it's going to be a good save for me. Penelope has been walking all day (and she is one of those big beautiful NH). I put her in the brooder with my youngest group of chicks today and watched for about ten minutes. She was getting along okay, but I decided to give her a couple of more days on her own, since she has only been walking for about 24 hours. She keeps one wing out to the side to counter-balance her weight. She's starting to get up on both feet instead of standing on her hock on one leg.

She is just so determined to survive, I couldn't not save her. I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but last night she got really loud about midnight. When I went to check on her, I picked her up, she snuggled into my hand and immediately got quiet. She is a sweetie.

Penelope today
