Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

My sons both showed chicks in the fair last year. They were young pullets. My older boy named his California White "Henny" and his Buff Orp "Penny"

Ya know from the old Little Red Hen book. Funny boy.

I had a white leghorn once I named Anne...Orexia. She was always soooooo thin!

The link to the Turkey Hatchathon is in my siggy. I need to get back in my overfull pm box and figure out who all was going to sell me eggs and get you folks paid and my address. If you have turkey eggs to offer, would you pop on the Turkey thread and tell everyone what you have to offer?? Maybe pics for visual happiness?

I'm surveying the land for a turkey run...

Don't remember who asked, but there's also a link to my incubation cheat sheet in my siggy. Amongst other things that likely need updating. I'm waaaaaay behind on almost everything.

*sigh* I need a Spring Break now that the kids have gone back to school. Sheesh!!

Finally caught up. Where's the wiping the sweat off the brow smilie?

Lost track of almost everything I read since there was 300+ post since I had been here.

Just wanted to say that puppy is best when you just singe off the hair and cook in a pit. Pony too. I didn't realize the time I had it the the names really meant what they said. Horse was a little salty, but the dog was really good. Not as good after I found out and it came back up.

Never had moose, but I'd love some elk right now. I love venison too, but I don't like the way most people cook it. a nice think buffalo steak. Better than beef, leaner and better for you.

Rattle snake anyone? Yum

I used to cook rabbit years ago at my job. It smelled great but I couldn't eat it. Now days I would. My Lionheads better start producing soon, or they may become a small snack.

STOP STOP STOP STOP!!!

All done talking about eating pets...

Oh, look! A chicken!

Here's a look at Butter, my Isabel Orp. He thought he'd try to flog me today! Well, not really me, but a new orange bucket I was carrying that he felt had somehow caused offense. He's a big boy...I'm glad I was wearing my tall muckers, not my sloggers.

Or perhaps....peas??

Ours have begun to lay for the year. Here's a bit of a view:

Just candled and pulled 4 eggs. Three of my own and 1 swap. I had some questionable ones, but I always leave them until the lockdown candling to be sure.
