Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I had to toss my first egg today. It was cracked on arrival (the only one that was cracked though! The shipper did a great job!!) and it had stopped developing at around day 2 I'd guess. I compared it to my other developing eggs and it didn't look anything like them. I cracked it open and it hadn't developed very far at all, like I said above. So, I have 14 eggs now. Not bad so far!

I'm the oldest of six and we raised rabbits. Dad always butchered'em. Mom used to fry them up and then pour bbq sauce over'em and bake them for 30-45 minutes.

Our daughters wanted some bunnies and I told them that we could do bunnies and then we could butcher'em and eat'em. They quickly changed their minds! LOL!!
Sounds like a good way to cook up rabbit. We like BUN-chiladas, and BUN-ritos at our house. My DH and kids were a bit iffy about eating rabbit when I got my meat rabbits, but they love how yummy it is and the fact that we almost always have cute baby bunnies to play with. (Just when it is about time to butcher, I have more cute ones in the nest box so no one freaks out)

Just did the official Day 10 candling. 16 of my 30 LONG distance shipped Silkie eggs are developing. (13 clears, 1 looks to be early death.) Fingers crossed, the 16 all make it to hatch!!!!

(2 porcelain, 2 white, 2 black, 2 lavenders, 1 partridge, and 7 blue/splash.)

My eggs came from close to the East coast all the way to Montana and I am pretty impressed at how they are doing. All of my white silkies were clear though :(. (I should end up with at least one each of porcelain, blue, black, splash and cuckoo though)

So a few people have asked about hatch cams. I have mine up right now for testing. I think I may need to add a light to help visibility. Have a look if you like and let me know what you think.

Looks good!

It wasn't just you, I assumed species of fowl. I am enjoying all the pics though.

I'm enjoying them all too, I was just a bit surprised when all the babies started showing up.

I assumed just animals, so posted my pup as part of the contest..I just posted a pic of my grandbaby to show off since I saw the others.

I didn't enter it. It's fun seeing all of the babies, I don't think they can actually do a human contest on who's got the cutest child, grandchild, etc..because...they are allll the cutest! You are right, chicken board, but I have to say, have seen some cute puppys, and goats!
I'd find it hard if I posted my son (clearly the cutest baby ever) and he didn't get votes. As my mom always said, "Every old crow thinks their chick is the blackest".

And that crow chick has the most gorgeous blue eyes.

The hoop house will need some repairs, spangled. Part of the bottom rail will be replaced, and two of the actual hoops. I guess the rope that tied it to the stake came loose, which is how it managed to take off. These are big (20 x 24), so once the wind takes a hold of them it is like a giant sail. Ours are moved with a tractor.
Exhausting day for me. So I'm off to sleep.

Oh, I did bring 2 dozen eggs to school today, but none of my regular customers needed eggs. So I decided to put out a school-wide email (usually it's just word of mouth) and now I have orders for 12 dozen! Yikes. I hope those hens keep laying. :p
