Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Here's a look at Butter, my Isabel Orp. He thought he'd try to flog me today! Well, not really me, but a new orange bucket I was carrying that he felt had somehow caused offense. He's a big boy...I'm glad I was wearing my tall muckers, not my sloggers.

Must be something in the air today. My normally very laid back BIG Black Copper Marans boy decided to have a go at the peanut (treat) jar this afternoon. Apparently, it had offended him in some way! (Red lid???) I'm just glad he took it out on the peanut jar and not me!!!!

Chooks, I love those photos of the peacocks. Lordy, Lordy, if their banshee cries didn't scare the bejeezus out of me, I'd want one.

..but I was almost considering my " meadow" as a place for a peafowl run. Hmmm. Maybe a turkey run? Wish it was large enough for an emu run....

I just candled my 10 eggs. I had 7 German NH's and 3 BA's. It looks like I have only three that are doing anything. Two NH's and one BA. There were a couple that I was not sure about but the rest were clear.

Those peas are lovely and I also want to know what the chololate chicken is in the background.

That's a Bantam Chocolate Orp, courtesy of Marc Sacre of Heirloom Orpingtons.

This is the sire of a bunch of my eggs in this hatch, as I put the Chocolate color gene into a bunch of different breeds. Silkies, Silkied Ameraucanas, Marans, Cochins (Large and Bantam), etc.

He's the papa of the weird green eggs I sent Mahonri. All of the first generation are auto-sexing because it's a sex-linked color gene, so if the chick is brown, it's a girl! I have Orps, Marans and OEs in the hatcher right now!

Ok I FINALLY caught up. I've been busy today. The duck has started quacking.

Seeing the Peafowl makes me want some. They're so pretty. Unfortunately, I'm getting guineas so I can't have them....yet.

Of to three hours of continuing education class.... We are required to get 24 hours per year... after this weekend, I'll have 24... but I like to stay ahead.

Candle and B+ !

Just did the official Day 10 candling. 16 of my 30 LONG distance shipped Silkie eggs are developing. (13 clears, 1 looks to be early death.) Fingers crossed, the 16 all make it to hatch!!!!
