So here is our 3rd entry for the cutest baby contest...THIS is Princess...As you can see the reason for her name was her perfect shaped crown on her head...She has the best and biggest personality always turns to "pose" for the camera and seems to smile..here she is only a few weeks old, 3 weeks old actually. and spent her evening "kissing Deb" over and over. Here is one of her royal baby pics....and YES she was the one that had to have stitches after the "hawk" attack!

As King of My Castle, I was setting on my throne and felt like we had an earthquake.
Checked the earthquake webpage and...nothing...

Must have been a HUGE truck driving by on the road to the south of us.

What, exactly, is the procedure for getting rid of a skunk that has been caught in a trap? Oh, wait, are you using a live trap or something more permanant?

I "gown up" and even tuck my socks into my pants, and put a hoodie on, so only my face is exposed. Two pairs of rubber gloves. Shoot the thing with a .22 still in the cage. Hopefully it doesn't spray (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't but it ALWAYS stinks no matter what).

Move it to a trash bag, tie it with a wire tie so I can get it super tight and then do the same thing again twice so it's triple bagged. After the second bag I put my outside pair of rubber gloves in the bag, then third bag it. Bag stays outside until we can get it to the dump. Cage stays outside until boyfriend pressure washes it. I immediately strip clothes, they go into washer. I go into teh shower. Clothes and body get washed at least twice with Fels-Naptha soap (good for removing poison ivy oil AND skunk odor). Skunk goes to the dump (I always feel bad when they have the compactor open and not the open top). Drop skunk and flee scene. Don't return to dump for 2 weeks.

SCG! You're making a LGD look better and better! Seriously, thanks for the step by step, we've often wondered, 'what if we end up with a skunk in the trap?" Good to know.

Wisher1000: The feed store, down the way from me, live traps them. When I asked, "wha???" they told: drop a sheet over the trap, the trick is, DO NOT drop the trap.

I was chased by a skunk out front about two weeks ago just after day light. My gosh they are pretty up close. um and a bit scary. Turns out, they're not afraid of you (or at least me).

Gotta go roll my egg, still no scale yet. I haven't added water since day one, hope it's okay in there, I'm dreaming of cute little EMUs, that do yardwork.

Finally caught up. Boy I am exhausted. I had called a lady about getting some hay delivered last Friday. She said she would call me back to let me know when they could deliver. I kept meaning to call her back since I hadn't heard from her. Yesterday afteroon I get a call from her, hey they are going to deliver today at 6pm is that OK? Ummm OK. Now I am thinking, get home around five, rush to get barn chores done and the spot for the hay tidied up (stack older hay to one side and rake cleared spot). Get all that done and it is a quarter past 6. OK they will probably get here soon. Rush in the house, hurry and eat dinner, clean up and still no one. It is now a quarter after seven. I call the lady, they are running behind but should be there soon. An hour goes by, she calls me back, they are just leaving a town north of me and will be there very soon. The guy gets lost trying to find the house (I don't think my road has made it to google maps yet) and finally pulls in to the drive at 9pm. Very nice gentleman, we unload and stack 50 bales and then he spends another 15 minutes trying to tie down the rest of his load. He gets done and off he goes. I get the barn closed up and it is now 10pm. I am sorely missing my two extra hours of sleep this morning. Thank goodness I don't have to do any major tasks at work today.

We did candle Tues night. Couldn't find my nicer led flashlights so used a normal that just wasn't bright enough to show clear definition. Checked about 1/3 of the eggs to find one blood ring and another egg that looked like it stopped a few days earlier. Kids wouldn't let me throw that one out. Looking at my air cells they looked a bit small for 10 1/2 days in so took out the water. Been running 30%-40% and occasional dips to low 20's so just took out the tumbler to let it dry out for day and half (18-22%). Guess I'll put the tumbler of water back in and candle a few right now to see how the cell is growing.

All righty, cells look great for 11 3/4 days in. A quick random sampling again just before sunrise found 2 clear and that one that quit early. Hadn't awoken the kids yet so tossed them. Makes 30 left and candled more than half with the two random grabs.

We have moved into the single digits now, only

days until hatch day!!! Now is the time to make sure you have everything you need and that your brooder is in working order for your newly hatched chicks.

For me, this is the longest part of incubation, the time between candling and hatch, you know you have live eggs.....how many will actually hatch?! Keep busy with your contest entries......some will be ending soon!
