ok an update on my broody today she moved to another nest guess because when she got up to eat and poo and drink a hen jumped in to lay well now there are 12 extra eggs under her and i am not sure which are the ones she started with and the new ones from today so we marked all 24 eggs under her then moved her back to the right box she is a silver laced something she has feathered feet and looks like a small round ball someone had a pic of one on here a few days ago i think a cohrin hope i spelled that right got her at teh TSC last year is that to many eggs under her will she be able to turn that many not sure if they were fertile i have a bantam EE rooster and all my hens are LF so not sure if he was able to do his job today i saw him trying but my hen just threw him off her back lol was funny to watch him flip over and land on his back.

So much going on! Congrats on winning! Congrats on good candling. Congrats on not buying your own emu because you should know better and hatch one yourself! Congrats on all the cuteness. Congrats on the burns healing. Sorry for your loss with Smudge. Sorry for your losses with candling. Sorry for your power outage. Eating dogs...yuck. Frozen dogs and cats...yuck! Gay turkeys, weird. Awesome emu stories...must hatch one even if I can't have one and will have to sell it. Oh and skunks are soooo cute. Goodnight!

Finally got brave enough to candle... I'm not good at it yet

, so all 12 went back in, but I think one is a quitter and one is a blood ring. Still, that means 10 are developing!

Aaaaand, pretty sure I saw movement in a few of them!!

I sure hope I get at lease a few chicks out of this batch...my first batch from this homemade incubator ( as well as my first attempt at incubating since I was a young child, lol) was a bust, due to a freak temperature fluctuation cooking them (shot up to 104 at one point!)

Will do egg-topsies on that first batch this weekend when I have a few moments free. Thank heavens the spike was the day before these were set!

I guess I could enter the incubator into the contest, though:

/\ A huge ice chest that had seen better days, with broken latches and such. Test-fitting eggs, here.
I am planning a better egg-holder/turner design for later. Zip ties and duct tape aren't doing such a great job

/\ That used to be a small lid to reach in for goodies without opening the whole thing. Conveniently enough, I had a piece of plexiglass that fit perfectly

Those are old metal tent poles running through it for turners. Waste not, want not.

Two pc fans, a bowl for water/sponge, a tube running through the wall of the cooler with a funnel on the end for adding water without disturbing the temps.

Yes, that is, indeed, pink/yellow/orange tie-die colored duct tape

I have two very lovely distractions today

Number 1
3 lovely little cream legbar chicklets hatched from MadamWlfCumbos beauteous egglings

It would have been 5 if one of my #$%^%$# incubators had not died the night before

Two roos and a pullet

And Distraction Number 2 - A replacement for the #$%^%$#@ incubator that died

And I would say, Now that's the way to take care of a Distraction!! Nice!!


At least you got a few babies..legbars...!

Thats Awesome! Recycling used materials into an incubator, Love the color of Duck tape too.

OK y'all. I'm hatching vicariously through you now (well unless one of my three little pullet eggs hatch). Do me proud! But I still want my little pullet eggs to hatch...
