Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Thank you so much! I live near a college town and they have lots of places that sell fish (since that is about the only pet you can have in a dorm room). I'm definitely going to try this. That way, I can get a turner for the incubator that I currently use as a hatcher and *then*... More chicks, of course!

Sit down everyone.

In my almost 54 years on the planet I have never sipped, nor tasted, nor drank even a drop of coffee.

Believe it or not.

I used to have a boss who followed the same philosophy and when he found out that the Mountain Dew he drank all day was caffeinated, he was heartbroken. I felt awful for telling him.

For anyone wanting to participate in Chookschick's cinco-de-mayo turkey hatchathon but only have one incubator. Here is a very inexpencive Hatcher that I built for the purpose to be able to participate. Thanks to another member who inspired me to do so. I posted these plans in the turkathon thread and decided to share it with you all in hopes you all will join us there as well.

Here are the picks of the hatcher I completed to hatch the eggs in my bator from the Easter hatch-along. They will go into lockdown in there. This will give me time to clean and disinfect my fridgebator for the turkey hatch-along. thanks to Zookeeper15133 for the idea to build it.

I built it from a styrofoam shipping container from a local pet store. It was a box that they shipped live fish in. I called and asked them and they told me they give them away or just throw them away. I would coll your local store to see if they have any. The light I got from a local thrift store for $1.50. The HW thermo I had laying around along with the metal grid. I pit water bottles on the bottom to use as heat sinks to slow the cycling of the lights and retain and give off heat. here are a set of plans to build your own incubator / hatcher. You can change the size if you like the principles are the same. *** If you decide to build one yourself note that you will be dealing with electricity and the possibility of shock is prevalent use caution please!***** I have these plans in PDF if anyone wants a copy PM me your e-mail and I will send it to you.

TSC also gets several of these boxes a month, and they'll hold them for you. They get their vaccinations and antibiotics shipped in them. Same thing with drugstores- they usually have a lot of small ones, as they get their insulin shipped in them. They're wonderful for shipping eggs when you get the smaller ones.

Apparently I can't multi-quote using my iPad (or I'm just not awake enough / savvy enough to accomplish it), so lemme see if I remember what I wanted to say within those quotes.

Kathy, I am so sorry about your diminished hatch possibilities!

Whoa! Loved the Spaghetti chart! I think I do those maneuvers in my house just attempting to do tasks, such as find my glasses, make a cup of coffee (Mahonri, I have only been drinking coffee for 37 of my 58 years and there's a story - for another time - about how I started drinking it..), locate a lighter AND my cigarettes (started when I was 40 years old, what a doofus), find the full cup of coffee, look for the TV remote, feed the dogs their baby carrot treats, ad infinitum. Not to mention opening the freezer door about three times trying to figure out how I managed to put my glasses in there earlier.

I thought we had NINE days, right??

unless it is loaed with cream and sugar. Which I Don't want to drink. So I stick with plain old tea, black and green, which my Grandmother started me drinking before I was 10 as a special treat. She would not let us add sugar.

Sugar in tea is an abomination unless it's Masala or Chai.

I LOOOOOOOOOVE tea...but want a single cup of coffee in the morning.

Finally caught up. Boy I am exhausted. I had called a lady about getting some hay delivered last Friday. She said she would call me back to let me know when they could deliver. I kept meaning to call her back since I hadn't heard from her. Yesterday afteroon I get a call from her, hey they are going to deliver today at 6pm is that OK? Ummm OK. Now I am thinking, get home around five, rush to get barn chores done and the spot for the hay tidied up (stack older hay to one side and rake cleared spot). Get all that done and it is a quarter past 6. OK they will probably get here soon. Rush in the house, hurry and eat dinner, clean up and still no one. It is now a quarter after seven. I call the lady, they are running behind but should be there soon. An hour goes by, she calls me back, they are just leaving a town north of me and will be there very soon. The guy gets lost trying to find the house (I don't think my road has made it to google maps yet) and finally pulls in to the drive at 9pm. Very nice gentleman, we unload and stack 50 bales and then he spends another 15 minutes trying to tie down the rest of his load. He gets done and off he goes. I get the barn closed up and it is now 10pm. I am sorely missing my two extra hours of sleep this morning. Thank goodness I don't have to do any major tasks at work today.

Oh my goodness dd, talk about running later than a little behind! Have your gotten your hay from them before?
And, chuckling here, because I've met you and I know how you are... so when you say, "nice gentleman", that just reminds me of what a nice person you are. You didn't even give him heck for first, taking so long to get it there, then second, taking a while before he can leave to leave. I have a son as a truck driver, and know, it takes them time to get things done with the truck before they can leave. You are a good person.

Another late bloomer! Linda I did the same thing. Coffee started in my 30's and so did cigarettes. How dumb was that? Although I'd like to cut out the cigarettes I haven't. I think my stress levels have been to high to stop. Coffee actually helps. I get migraines and for some they need to cut caffine, but when I was dealing with a brain tumor, they perscribed caffine tablets. Man can those things literally shake you up. Dumped them and drank coffee. Oh and after living through the strokes and tumor I told my doctor I needed a cigarette (hadn't have one in more that 2 years), a drink and massive amounts of coffee. The drinking is very rare and has to be something sissy. LOL

I still haven't candled. I need more space. My girls are lined up by the nest boxes. I may have to do a couple of 24hr auctions. That depends on what my mechanic does to my car today and if I can afford gas to get to the PO afterwards.

I should candle only because I even set eggs at the bottom of the Sportsman this morning. Only way I could fit those is because ????? got moved to the hatcher for lockdown. Can't remember how many are in there right now.

Been getting lots of eggs. Some are mixed so will be OEs, EEs or maybe even some of my Lav Eggers. Then there are the pures. hmmmm What to do? I literally have eggs almost touching the acrylic door. Eggs everywhere!

eta Just remembered I have eggs coming in the mail

There's one of those near here, but I've never been. I'll take Texas Roadhouse over just about anything though.
