Im thinking about buying some fertile TJ eggs soon for the hatch-along, but I dont want to have white leghorns, does anybody know if Trader Joes has any other breed of eggs other than the white leghorns?

I just hatched 6 out of 12 white leghorns from TJ. I put them on craigslist and they all sold within hours, along with the other 10 chicks I had available from the Valentine's hatch. The woman said she wanted white egg layers because "Mom won't eat brown eggs". I've heard that Whole Foods sells brown fertile eggs.

They were pretty darn cute, especially since I only had them a couple of days!

Edited to add, does that look like a rooster attitude or what?!!!?

Sounds like everything is going fine. You are in for a long night! When she goes outside make sure someone goes with her, sometimes they will pop a puppy out unexpectedly. And if she is in actual labor - abdominal contractions, not the distracted restless panting part - for more than 30 minutes, call your vet.

BTW... y'all ought to check out the news flash on Post #1....

I've got a Nerf suction cup shooter. Fat lotta good that's going to do me trying to keep the trespassers away.

Anyway, since I have your ear (or think I do), what do you think about letting folks who are setting eggs under broodies have the option of setting the eggs Saturday evening of the 17th of March? Why? Because my broodies often go absolutely crazy when I try to set eggs under them and retrieve the dummy eggs. If I can do it in the dark with my helper, then I have a much better chance of not making the broody go unbroody. I also would prefer no hatching eggs be broken in the melee. I especially hate it when she jumps out at me and then runs off. An evening setting is better for me because then she has time to settle back down in the dark and get back to her brooding before sunup. I hope for the Saturday night option since a lot of the time the broodies hatch eggs a day ahead of schedule which would put them as hatching on Friday eve 4/6 or Saturday 4/7. But they also do wait to bring the chicks off the nest for about 2 days also, so for photo taking reasons a Friday evening setting may be better for the Hatch-a-long.

Anyway, I'm happy any way you wanna slice it. Your party. Your guidelines.

In the end, unruly broodies are my problem. (see me bowing incessantly as I back out of your presence)
