Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

California has seasons! It all depends on where you live. If you want permanent spring you live on the coast. If you like summer you live in the valley and if you want all of the seasons in one year you live in the foothills on up to the mountains - depending on how much snow you want to shovel. This is one of the few places you can surf the waves and ski the slopes in one day. But if you do come, you need to bring your own source of income and lots of tax repellant.

and dsqard, I hear ya' on the Stockton thingy. When we lived in Utah, the first time I heard Stockton mentioned on the news there I was trying to figure out why they were talking about some small happening which occurred in Stockton, California.
Well, yeah, I do know a out the income and tax part. My sister lives in San Rafael, and she bought a trailer for $100,000!!! (She calls it a mobile home). And the worst part is, she must pay monthly rent on the land it sits on (she doesn't own that). My other sister is in Alaska, so we're about as spread out as you can get! :p

There's always one smart one in every crowd :D

I thought you guys might like to see this. It's from this article, but I'm not sure where you can see the whole article. I am poking around on my university's online database.

ETA: The outside of the shell is on the bottom, and that netting-type stuff is the inside membrane.

Those photos are soooooooooo cool ! I wish I could read the article!

Today's the big day. The work on the Icelandic pen took longer than expected, DH was sick so he needed some extra rest. But the wall is up, the door is on, the roll out nest boxes are in place, the only thing missing is a layer of netting between the ceiling and the top of the 8 foot wall. An 8 foot wall would contain normal chickens but Icelandics  they'll fly out and be all over the place.

See ya when I'm done, I'll bring pictures :D

My goal for the day is to get caught up here. lol like that will happen. I have been up "chickening" all day. Turning eggs, candling eggs so far they look good. I got 2 mini Brinsea Echo's for my serama eggs and I can see a BIG difference in the veining as compared to my LG bators. I'm hoping having better bators will mean more chickies. On is full of Serama and the other is stuffed with Sizzle & Silkie eggs. In the LG I have my AMER. and some assorted bantam and Mille Fluers in for a fertility test. The Eco's will be empty for the hatch as well as the LG. I better not set anymore eggs. ;) oh crud I have 3 more batches coming in the mail in the mean time and a bid on another. This morning I also built another "grow out" cage for the basement swapped chickes around in brooders to make room for the 3 Bronze Turkie Lurkies I talked DH into letting me get yesterday!! Thanks giving dinner!! I love reading everyone's posts, back to reading the posts.
