Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

LOL yes, i suppose my kids should feel lucky!

sad to hear about your classroom lack of hatch. i will be setting eggs with a class for this hatchalong and am nervous about it now. anything you can think of that i should watch out for? any tips? thanks.

I've hatched in a classroom for quite a few years. The biggest issue I had was during the weekends the thermostats were adjusted down (in our case because it's cold here in the Spring) in the school and the thermostat in the incubator could not compensate for it. Thus we had quite a few no hatches. I bought a small digital rcom mini (3 egger) that could change with the changing temperatures and then we had good hathes. My former students always come up to me and tell me that hatching eggs was a highlight of their first grade year. Not sure what that says about my teaching

The weather condition looks quiet.

Please, where do you find these maps? I like.

Thanks, Deb. There were five Campine eggs there, I hoped some would hatch but they were all clear. I am not going to try the eggs I have from the last Campine hen, I am just going to order some.

Oh, and here are someold pics of the guinea box that I was talking about a few posts back. The guineas in the pic are the ones that were brooded in the box. Can you believe thay they all tried to get in that box at night to sleep?!!?

Guineas are so silly.

Oh, your Guineas adorable. Love the Guinea box story. Do they only lay in the spring or year round? I'm having trouble with my Campines, too. I have two darling hens, but their eggs appear to be infertile. I have been collecting and incubating their eggs for probably 6 weeks and have nothing to show for it.

I switched them to live with another rooster the other night.

I just think it's weird that you can have a chocolate father with a red mother and the pups come out COAL BLACK!.

They're like my chickens. Cross a White Chicken with a Red Chicken and get Black Chickens. White + Red = Black.

Is bleach water good enough for cleaning the Brinsea?

Seems to work for me--the bottom, the tray, and those egg divider things. I don't wash the top with bleach. I wipe it off with those Clorox Wipes and use a vacuum once at the beginning of the season. When I took the top apart to clean it, I couldn't figure out how to put it back together! I had to dig out photos to figure it out.

Oh stop! I love it.

But I reserve the right to be melodramatic at the drop of a hat.

I took my camera out to the coop to try to get some shots for the contests. I laughed out loud at some of them, here they are....enjoy.

This is the funniest one, to me..... I call it, "Check me out!"

You have some beautiful birds!

I should so be asleep... but something woke me up, so I've been trying to send pics to family via e-mail and it's NOT working.

I'm about to give up.

I guess I'll go make some popcorn (even though it's dinner time) and go wait for Java Girl 2 to check in and let us know which chicks she bought at the store.
