I expect the sixth one soon.

Thanks to the tips here, all 11 of the eggs that developed have pipped.

Sorry for the delay. Making chicken saddles, buying grain, running to the library. To make the saddles I found this site with very good sewing instructions. I do buy the fusable lining to stiffen and strengthen, but it's not absolutely necessary. YOu could skip that step. In place of elastic, perhaps sew thin strips the size of 1/4 inch elastic, or old shoe laces, soft twine maybe. I had the snaps from past projects (20 years ago) and my son suggested buttons. Using a loop type button hole(hand sewn). The tiny snaps are not holding well on all the chicken saddles. Maybe it depends on how rough the roosters are. I dont know why some are staying on fine and others are off, or half off.

I know that website! Thanks!

I actually went and looked at that same website this afternoon. I cut elastic from the leg hole of old, worn-out underwear and used fabric from an old curtain. I had no snaps, so I just sewed the elastic on at both ends. I wasn't sure how it would fit, but it worked! Maybe I'll take a picture tomorrow. I'm so proud...

Here is Duva with her three chicks.....the Blue Isbar and two of the Icelandic eggs did not hatch. Eggtopsy showed the Isbar had developed to a recognizable chick but quit soon after. One Icelandic was very near full term but never pipped internally and the other Icelandic egg had a VERY hard shell, I had a hard time cracking it to look in it, and it had a large full term chick that had absorbed the yolk. I think it was too large and didn't have room to get enough power to crack that rock-hard shell.

I am very happy with the three beautiful chicks I got and that Duva, at only 8 months old, seems to be a doting momma.

I am sorry about the three which did not hatch, but you have three beautiful chicks there! I love sweet broody-with-babies pictures.

I'm hoping to be able to take some of my own soon.

My little Phoenix is still broody. She's now starting to look a bit more serious, not only pancaking in the box all day but fluffing up and growling at me. I cleaned out my 4x4 coop this afternoon and washed with some Oxine and water. It's drying out tonight, and then I'll set it up for her tomorrow and move her tomorrow night (along with the two wooden eggs she's been sitting on

). If that doesn't break her up, she'll get to sit on maybe four Basque eggs on Tuesday. I don't want to give her too many because she is untested, but I also don't want to set her on eggs if I am planning on selling the chicks once they hatch. I'll be growing out all of the Basques, so I won't have to take them away from her. In fact, if she does well, I'd love to give her the chicks from the incubator once they hatch as well. We'll see.

I'm already having so much fun. I love the Easter Hatch!!!

Look at that sweet face!

Oh! What a great photo! You must be so excited. My 21 year old cat finally passed on this evening. I am very sad, but relieved that she died at home and did not appear to really suffer. She had a good long life, - I knew her longer than I knew my own mother. I am really enjoying everyone's chick photos. It is nice to see new life springing forth on what is otherwise a sad day for me.

Oh, buckaboo, I am so sorry about your cat. I am glad she did not suffer and you were able to have her at home.
