Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Why don't you try the pepper trick? It seems there is no real reason that it should work but there are lots of people who swear by it. I've heard cayenne pepper and I've heard black pepper. Maybe someone can tell you which and how much. I think I might try it myself, I have 10 hens and 11 pullet/hens that should be laying by now but I only get 5 - 8 eggs a day.

I will try that, I had completely forgot about that. thank you.

Ummmmmm.............bass
Hey everyone! I'm home and caught up. I'm soooo tired. I DID get to go fishing, but we did have any bait so I ended up using a lure (which I never use) and ended up catching a bass that was too small to keep. Then I caught one that big enough, but just as my dad was reaching for the line it got away.... right off the edge of the bank. Oh well, we came home with 5 good sized bass. I'm happy.

Boyfriend got me some poppyseeds! So... my first attempt at poppyseed loaf, like old times.

It's pretty good but not quite the right taste. Anyone have a Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, Slav, etc grandma they can ask about the contents of the filling? This is poppy seeds, honey, eggs, sugar, raisins and butter. I know I'm missing something. I'm pretty sure it's not orange or lemon zest which I found online in another recipe.

Here's another reminder that today is the last day to guess the number of eggs we will set. I am on my phone so can't pull up link. Please go to contests.

Oh geez! How do I do that???

Never mind, I found it.
BTW I still want to do a contest next week. Is there still room?

Besides what you have, I add a little lemon zest and rum.

Never heard of it, but it sounds good.

Okay, made my guess and put it on YET another form. Laree is in charge of that, right? I need for her to delete the first two forms I filled out (when I was completely lost on what to do) and I will do the correct one when Mahonri gives his official declaration of what breeds he is setting. My guess (and it is a wild guess) is 13,427 eggs set on St Patty's day.

We're getting' close, gang!

Bucka... I know just where the 2 holes are, or at least I did last year - assuming they haven't changed. One's by the septic tank, of course, so I probably shouldn't try the gas bomb.

Although it sounds wicked awesome. I'd like to blow those groundhogs from here to Mars.
Ok, DH doesn't think the septic tank is an issue. Here's what you do: Block up all the holes (with rocks or something) but one. At the one open hole, you need to reach in a ways and place a little tray of foil. Pour a cup or so of gasoline into the tray, and then block the opening with a large wadded up plastic bag. Go away for 20 minutes or so (you are making fumes). Now you are going to remove the plastic bag, and standing away from the hole (at an angle where you are shielded if someone were to throw a projectile out of the hole), you are going to throw a lit match and run away. DH then adds, "please DON'T TELL ANYONE I told you to do this! It is dangerous and probably illegal (and very effective). Never stand in front of the hole, where the fire rocket will exit." I believe if your neighbors see you doing this, they might think you are a true native.
