Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Ok, DH doesn't think the septic tank is an issue. Here's what you do: Block up all the holes (with rocks or something) but one. At the one open hole, you need to reach in a ways and place a little tray of foil. Pour a cup or so of gasoline into the tray, and then block the opening with a large wadded up plastic bag. Go away for 20 minutes or so (you are making fumes). Now you are going to remove the plastic bag, and standing away from the hole (at an angle where you are shielded if someone were to throw a projectile out of the hole), you are going to throw a lit match and run away.
DH then adds, "please DON'T TELL ANYONE I told you to do this! It is dangerous and probably illegal (and very effective). Never stand in front of the hole, where the fire rocket will exit."
I believe if your neighbors see you doing this, they might think you are a true native.

Seriously, though, you should probably just stick with your 22.

Oh my.. I really like the idea of keeping up with this thread but I'm afraid if I'm realistic with myself.. it aint happenin! Anyway, I set my easter ducklings yesterday for the hatch a long but desperately need some help! I'm afraid I might kill them if I already haven't. Can some experienced hatchers check my "oops" thread?

I know that website! Thanks!

I actually went and looked at that same website this afternoon. I cut elastic from the leg hole of old, worn-out underwear and used fabric from an old curtain. I had no snaps, so I just sewed the elastic on at both ends. I wasn't sure how it would fit, but it worked! Maybe I'll take a picture tomorrow. I'm so proud...

Good to know sewing in the elastic will work! I wasn't sure so I didn't try. Just slips over the wing feathers ok??

Nice idea on the elastic ! LOL I don't throw underwear elastic away either, only I usually use to repair buckles on horse blankets.

I have 100 posts to read , or it is 200 , since 25 hours ago. Yikes!! It was a beatiful day today so I took my kids to a birthday party and washed lots of dishes (DW broke ! ) and worked on a run a bit. THen the day is gone. . . again.

Boyfriend got me some poppyseeds! So... my first attempt at poppyseed loaf, like old times.

It's pretty good but not quite the right taste. Anyone have a Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, Slav, etc grandma they can ask about the contents of the filling? This is poppy seeds, honey, eggs, sugar, raisins and butter. I know I'm missing something. I'm pretty sure it's not orange or lemon zest which I found online in another recipe.

Mmmm poppyseed!!! I never knew they made loafs but I luv the cookies

Unbelievably, there are a couple of other threads that are frequented more than this one! I don't know but I imagine we are in the top ten.

This years thread is WAY ahead of last years as far as posts go, but we also have 33 more members than we did last year too. We'll break 60,000 views before St. Patty's day, easy.

And as I went through last years list and this years, even though we do have a goodly number of repeat participants, I'm amazed at the high number of different folks we have this year as compared to last.

I just spent the last couple hours in the backyard, watering the garden, lawn, feeding the chickens, refilling waterers etc... The citrus is blossoming and I HATE THE SMELL! It literally makes me sick. Yes, I've enjoyed picking the grapefruit and eating them for breakfast but I am so extremely allergic to the citrus blooms.

Am I getting old or is the default font too small to read comfortably? Seems that way to me anyway.

Really?

I LOVE the smell of citrus blooming. But I also love the smell of dead skunk and dairy farms.

One of us must be crazy.
