He puts up with all of my animal craziness and I put up with his golfing. It works for us.

Just received another shipment of eggs and the box was damaged and discolored. You just knew there were broken eggs in it. Fortunately I still have eight eggs to set from this box. I'll be setting the rest of my eggs in a few minutes. After the new eggs rest, how long do they need to be in the bator before I start turning them? Fortunately I have a hatcher that I can put them in for that time and then will add them with the rest of the hatch.

Well I did it again. Dropped a couple of eggs, but I have hens in boxes and lots of egg songs going on. I'm adding anything out there when I set.

I'm behind on everything. Not going to be able to set at noon. I've waited to long to get rid of the last hatch from the hatcher, just hoping I'd get more. I have eggs to lockdown and no room in the Sportsman while I do all of this. If I wasn't so old and falling apart, I would have been done by now.

Had a great time at the poultry sale this morning! I sold two dozen barnyard mix hatching eggs, about 50 hexagonal egg cartons, and my Silver Ameraucana rooster!

Gotta start making room for all of these new chicks!

I have some awesome news!!!!! My Duck eggs from Zookeeper15133 are all viable and growing!!!!! I did not expect that from eggs shipped from western Pa to Western Mt. That's over 2,000 miles and through the postal system. But when I candled them tonight thats what I got 100% growing and developing. With all the horror stories I've been reading here I expected about 50% viability after that distance. Way to go Zookeeper15133, I think allot of it had to do with the care in packaging.

Now I guess the rest is up to me I hope I do not screw it up! I have never incubated duck eggs before!
Just FYI, shipping issues what cause late quitters, too, like day 16-18.

Since I can't have roos, I'll be keeping hens for the breeder as "a back up" in case something were to happen to her flock.
Greenfire is selling new chicks of this breed for $99 a chick!
What a deal! How neat! You will be a steward of the breed.

You're a brave woman!

Also with the 1588, I had to set the #6 toggle switch. (rather than the preset #4)
Temp has been steady at 99.5 for over half an hour.
That's funny. My 1588 had the opposite issue. All of last year, it ran about 100.6 - 101.3. I reset it down to #2 to get it to 99.4-8 for this hatch.

Here's what I'm setting; 35 eggs - some shipped and some our own.
4 OE, 2 NN/EE, 5 EE, 2 Frizzle, 4 Sizzle, 4 BCM, 3 Welsummer, 1 Langshan, 1 EE/BO, 9 Barred Rock Mix

I've got three late hatching Cochins in the bator; so I'll be setting this evening

So, I forgot there was a game egg in the bator. I candled it, thinking maybe it had quit as it's been through the ringer this week. Really high humidity, hot and cold and back again have all been the factors that SHOULD have made it quit. This morning it spent 4 hours in a very cool room after being in the bator. It's still alive and kicking.
