Thanks so much SCG, that really helps, I think I just needed some reassurance haha. I'm just hoping a few of them hatch, this is my first attempt so I would be happy with one! But that would mean I would have to go buy some more chicks to keep that one company... oh dear it goes full circle doesn't it?? Lol

I'm surprised how resilient eggs are... my first ever broody went broody at the end of December 2010, when it was significantly subzero. I let her sit, of course. She'd wander off the nest to go do her business and eat and get back on the wrong nest sometimes. Her eggs would be frigid cold by the time I'd get home from work to remedy the situation and she still had 3/4 hatch. Which brings me to the resilience of chicks... their water would freeze in the coop quickly, and sometimes momma would knock it over and the shavings would freeze... the chicks survived.
