Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Oh no! Horrible thing to come in here to. kvmommy I hope since you haven't come back in for a little while, it just means you've made that call and everything is fine, just taking time to explain some hazards and safety to the kids. I have a lot of kids and man they could keep me on my toes and terrified at times. I swear you can hang things from the cieling and they can still get to them. Hope your babies are doing alright.

I have a Brinsea Spot Check Thermometer. It's spot on.

It actually did go up to 97.4... but I'm thinking that's cuz it's getting warmer in the house.

Thanks for the concern and advice! I knew it wasn't mercury but an alcohol thermometer but I was worried about the beads containing lead. I got my cell charged enough and called poison control. The beads steel shot but probably have lead, but not enough to cause lead poisoning. Thank God! They said he'll be totally fine and I'll probably find some beads in his poop. I'm seriously thinking about getting a landline since my cell phone can't hold a charge more than a few hours and half the time its dead. wow....what a day.

Open plugs or open the bator... you know now that you have your temps stable.

that is so true at least my temps are stable the hummidity went up when it was at 40 and i wanted to get it to 50 to 55 guess i but in a little to much water. i have my digital thermomiter on top of the eggs and now i finally got a steady temp i hate the ones that came with the incubator.

OMG....DS was outside with DD and I was watching them through window while I was doing dishes. They're playing with dirt and sticks and stuff and all of the sudden DD starts screaming. I run out and she has a small cut on her finger and its bleeding. after I clean it up I make her show me what cut her, it turns out its my missing aquarium thermometer. The alcohol part is intact but the glass and beads aren't. DD says DS was eating the beads. So I run and check his mouth and there's no glass or cuts in his mouth but theres beads all over it. Does anyone know what those beads are? ARe they lead? Should I take DS to the ER?? I feel like the worst mommy ever.

i will be kepping her in my prayers that she is ok and has no ill effects from the beeds

I did not.  I bet they're in a box in the shed.  I set the eggs anyway (except for the box still at my UPS Store/post office, awaiting pickup on Monday) because the humidity in the incubators is always high and takes a while to lower, so the humidity pumps don't need to pump water in, for a while....) and am contemplating using paper towels.

Goodness, Mahonri, you are experienced enough of a hatcher to know the temp fluctuates, especially for the first 24 hours!  Breathe....  Gosh I love you a ton, particularly because YOUR fluctuations help keep ME sane!!!

Doh!  I could have found that myself, being a regular Brinsea customer, but THANK YOU SO MUCH!  I don't know how long it would have taken me to figure out I could order more.

Ordered.  Will install them the moment I get them home from the UPS Store/post office - my mailing address.  No residential mail here in this part of Somerset.

And it SNOWED overnight!  I have been taking pictures.  I got my snow!  I got my snow!  :weee   The geese and ducks have been out patrolling in it, while the chickens are staying MOSTLY on the porch, under the deck, and in areas where there isn't any snow.  Not a lot here, I'm at 2200 feet.  But I got my snow!!! Pictures to follow, some here, and more on my Home In The Foothills thread.

And here in North Central Ohio it is 75* in middle of March. Supposed to be 78* on Tuesday. Don't know what is up with weather but I have a bad feeling I'll be melting all summer.
