Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

The snow has melted. There was sun for a while. But it has started to rain again, and there is snow mixed with it. I bet there's gonna be more snow overnight!

May be interesting going to work tomorrow morning...

Oh, yaaaaah, just now turned to snow! I think it's time to dry off my slippers and put them into the dryer again.

Tomatos, strawberries, and flowers planted so far. And that's just my mom and dad's plants. I don't have any peat pellets so I can't get my herbs started. I guess there won't be any sage and thyme this year.

It probably is much too early, but figure the worst that can happen is to have replant the three, four foot long rows [and I'll plant the rest of the 30 foot rows, plus others, later anyway]. If it turns out to be a freaky, early spring and summer, there is a chance I may have the first corn-on-the-cob around.

I quit growing peas back in the 80s, too many early heat waves cutting the season short made buying fresh frozen seem the thing to do, and a good asparagus bed provides plenty of pea like flavor to put up in place of peas. Most of my garden will be in the three sisters this year, with some tomatoes and melons on the other end.
Yummy!!!!! You may want to look at the peas again--many short seasoned varieties now available. I usually plant the pod types as those are expensive in the stores, and I just buy shelled peas as they are so cheap. My boys like asparagus-- they eat one bite off the top!

Please tell me about Three Sisters. It's corn, beans, and squash - right? Do you plant seeds or plants and what varieties? I have plenty of time...

I am sitting stock still on the interstate between Birmingham and Atlanta and have been for over an hour! Thank heavens I have a dash mounted Toughbook in my vehicle!

Those instructions are for resetting to factory defaults. That is not a bad idea since by now the poor thing could be quite confused.

After resetting it, you can adjust it up or down without the light flashing three times. I would turn it off unless you were resetting it to factory defaults.

I think you are going to get a good hatch out of the Genesis

I was just explaining what works for me.

I'm glad there are folks out there with positive thoughts for all of those wonderful WMR and Chookschicks and Audin Icelandic eggs!

So since I started, "fiddling" with the toggles. I've finally found one setting where I could get it to go over 99.0 and stay there after twenty minutes.

I kept it on. Shut everything off. toggled 2, 4, 6 & 8. Waited for it to flash 3 times. and then I turned on the "8" !
(I previously tried the EXACT same procedure with a 5, 6 and 7. After 20 minutes it would go back to 96 or 97 degrees.)
Oh and all of this plugged into another outlet... just for poops and giggles.

It's now been steady for 20 minutes at 99.7 with the spot check. 99. 5 with one Radio Shack, 101 with another Wal-mart and 100.7 with another thermometer (no clue where that was bought). I'm believing the Brinsea Spot check. I PRAY it's right!

in our garden every year we have 50 foot rows and we plant 4 rows corn, 2 rows beans, 2 rows peas, 2 rows snap beans, 2 rows squash, 2 rows cucumbers, 2 rows tomatoes 2 rows bell peppers 2 rows hot beppers 2 rows okra and we do 2 rows watermellon and 2 rows pumpkin but this year we have to cut in in half due to that we fenced in half our garden space for my kids goats

We are missing about 50 participants on the spread sheet, don't forget to fill out your participation form. Leaders do you need help contacting those missing? I can send pms tomorrow from work where I can use a computer.
I will need the numbers set to announce a winner.
I have another batch of eggs floating around in the US postal system since last wednesday - thinking now that I will still try to hatch them, but leave them out of my Easter hatch group as the eggs are getting pretty old by now (10 days old when mailed) and I don't know for sure if they will even come tomorrow.
