Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Well we came thru the storms with no damage and with lights intact sad to say just 10 miles down the road is another story a tornado touched down and caused alot of damage and a house fire due to a gas line being wripped up out of the ground from under a house. Please keep my neighbors from down the road in yalls prayers. ok question on my temps some say 102 since i have still air and the eggs in the turnner are cool and the eggs stacked on top is warm and others say 100 ontop of the stacked eggs. which should i do to save the hatch should i try and get a 3rd incubator and take the stacked eggs out and place them in a 3rd incubator if i can find one and get it stabled.

About the crossbeaks

I have been reading about crossbeaks lately and there is a product that they sell at Walgreens or CVS that is supposed to help a lot. It is Bioplasma Sport. Here is a pic of it!

It is supposed to help the jaw muscle redevelop heathier. I have not tried it but it is pretty inexpensive and it can't hurt too much I would think!

I had to come and read posts here today because I am just too depressed to do much outside even though it was a very pretty day here

. I bought some chicklets from a lovely man and had them sent express mail. They were suppose to arrive yesterday by three. They did not and the post dept was pretty cruel in saying - well just give us a call tomorrow. They arrived today finally and all most all of them are dead!!! I have spent the day watching two of them slowly fade into nonexistence

OK, I've got my celeb look alike... I hatched this chick for Valentines Day, and at first her beak was almost imperceptively crooked, and it continues to get worse. I was hoping it was a boy and I could send him to freezer camp with his brothers, but alas, it's a girl. She'll obviously be joining the rest of my misfit flock, and I hope she lives a good, long life. And doesn't reproduce.

Is this chicken from Aroostook County?

So all the candelling pictures made me curious so picked out an egg and saw veins! Yay!
Kim, I tried to candle the purple egg, but it is darker than my marans! Will save the rest for sat!

Sorry. Well not really. LOL

Melissa Rose, I'm so sorry about your chicks. They just don't seem to care do they? I can't believe they can just let them sit and die.

Yea, I fell into this same trap. I slipped one of the little pullet eggs out to candle it and couldn't see anything inside. It is not clear, I just can't see anything. It is as if the shell is too thick to allow any light through at all. I picked up another, bigger, lighter colored one and could see perfectly. I guess it will just be a surprise on the day before Easter.

IF I candle, I don't until day 10 or 12, and then MAYBE again at lockdown. In the first case, I prefer to be able to REALLY see development or not, and in the second, I sometimes just cross my fingers and don't candle then at all.

I prefer to be disappointed only once, and if I candle and find non-developed eggs or "dead" ones, it makes me sad. IF, at day 25 - yes, day 25 - there are un-hatched eggs, then that's the disappointment I'm ready to handle.

Because, you see, I am pleased if I get even ONE chick - and two chicks is a GOOD hatch, regardless of the number of eggs set. (That's just me... I may be out money for the eggs, but if I have two miracles, it's hard to be disappointed about the rest of the eggs that didn't hatch.)

X2! I only candle at lockdown!
