Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

OMG I totally GET it!!! I guess we could cull....but its a life and the babies instintively trust us...I TRY and save every one I can...people we know bring us chicks to try and save...its what we do...if we can't...then so be it...I DO wish I had some form of euthenasia that would be quick and painless and less dramatic than "off with the head"...just seems sooo hard after you have given your all to save them...I would prefer to not to kill them harshly....as much for me as them...I have no problem freezer camping so am not so soft I can't DO sustainable farming, BUT I DONT WANNA kill chicks!

Just went out and put some eye meds into my little SFH. I hope they work... she's like 90% blind now.

you can see the swelling on her right eye. she's next to a little Wheaten Am. pullet.

Here is a white Araucana I picked up out in the SW valley... I hope it's a pullet

Here is a little OE roo... BWA X FBCM... pretty but he'll have to go...

And here is the only pic I could get of the little Icelandic pullet that Boston brought me down off of the mountain.. I've got to get a full body pic for you to see the absolutely beautiful colors she carries. I've named her "Flower"

Did I tell y'all that Sally finally started laying... hatched her out of Kathy's eggs last year for Easter... finally earning her keep!

Last year we decided to save money making ourown pizza and not buying so often. We finally worked out a decent pizza dough.

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp instant yeast
1 tsp sugar
3/4 cups bran
1 tablespoon olive oil

Mix together in a large bowl, add enough warm water to make a soft dough. Knead 5 minutes. let rest 10 minutes.

Sprinkle cornmeal on a pizza pan or jelly roll pan. Place dough on pan and stretch to fit, using a rolling pin to help, and finish fitting to pan by hand. Add sauce, mozarella and other toppings. Bake in hot oven 450 degrees.
Mix the dough and knead it in the morning. Split into the number of pizzas you are going to make and put the balls into zip lock bags. Leave the bags on the table or kitchen counter until making the pizza that night.

The dough deflates and becomes something like what you get from the Pizza places.

Bye,

Cardamom...loaf pan? YEAST FROM AIR??? I'm in wayyyy over my head. Soooo...even though did my shine through the top no holding candle last night...I did it again tonight on my hovabator eggs that have been cooked twice. Here's something to make you smile. Why mommy shouldn't try to build a feeder in the living room.

Gosh, she is gorgeous! I do love the Silver Laced birds!

I did buy 2 from the local feed store and know they are NOT going to look like this....... I might have to bribe someone to get me a pretty one like this..... Ahem... Kathyinmo... are you the "Kathy" I need to bribe?

No, I am keeping them. Originally, the reason I got them was to create my own strain of Delawares. I had to find New Hampshires and Barred Rocks for my project. Those are the breeds I am keeping.

Phew! Those NHs are just so beautiful! I have seen one in person and it is the most beautiful chicken I've ever seen.
