It's Mark Zuckerburg, the CEO of Facebook! He may not have looks, but he sure is all set for life in terms of money...

True, and he is one that is laughing all the way to the bank, while others chuckle at his looks. I actually don't think he looks all that bad, just young! No fair!

So at 430 I kicked broody Black Betty off her nest. She seemed fine. She ate and laid down in the shavings for a bit. Had a colossal broody poo. She's been broody less than a week. And she's a great broody.

At 645 I went out to put the chickens to bed. I'm missing a chicken. Black Betty isn't in her nest.

I find her under the coop, she looks like shes laying on dirt thinking it's her eggs. So I pick up a 2x4 to push her with it and try to convince her to go back to bed. She acts really weird and stiff and pretty much rolls in a 180. I am able to run around the coop and pick her up. She's stiff and weak, can't stand, can't keep her head up.

She's dying. I know it.

She's on my lap right now, I brought her into the house where it's warm (cause she was cold) so she can die somewhat comfortably.

What could have possibly happened in the slightly more than 2 hours since I threw her off the nest?

So sorry! The only thing I can think of is that she ate something that she shouldn't have. Other than that, only an internal infection makes sense.

That's just an awful experience. Perhaps she'll get better as she warms up?

Oh I'm so sorry. Maybe she'll be alright. Maybe give her something in case it was poisining? IDK. I really wish I could help, but it's so hard to do just over the web. Is she trying to eat or drink at all?

Also some of you may have noticed Laree's been MIA. She's been up to super secret important work lately and was unable to run her Liar, Liar Pants on Fire Contest.

However, she still had a prize to give away.

She used a random number generator to choose a random post number, and will give the prize away to the poster of the random number chosen.

The winner is... Cynthia12 on Post # 6635

Congratulations, Cynthia! You posted and won! Please PM LareePQG your mailing address.
What?! What did I do? I never win anything, or guess anything, or even get picked randomly...ha...going to find LareePQG! Way cool!

I'm pretty sure she didn't get poisoned. She didn't leave the run, ate the same BOSS that everyone else ate tonight.
She's almost dead. She can't even lift her head up. She's beyond eating/drinking at this point.

How old is she? Has she been laying regularly (before she was broody)? How long has she been broody? Does she feel "thin/boney" like her condition has been bad for a while but is just now showing?

I have no idea what could have made her start to die in 2 hours..........how old is she? I consider 8 years and up old for a chicken. But if she wasn't that old, maybe she has been sick or something for a long time but it didn't show til now. I don't know but I'l be hoping for the best

She'd have been 2 this April. She was laying regular up to being broody. She was "broody" for about 3-4 days (walking around puffed up and clucking) before she finally sat on the nest, so I knew it was coming. She's not thin or bony at all... She was warm when I took her off the nest today. I've flashlighted her the best I can without disturbing her dying, and I don't see any wounds or lice/mites.
Her entire body is cold right now, even though the house is 75 and I'm right next to the wood stove (that's on). Her breathing is shallow, her head is hanging down off my lap and her comb is now purple.
She has no power to move her body at all.

Oh well. It stinks and I care for her, but she wasn't one of my favorite hens, although seeing her puffed up and broody always made me laugh. I'd have a mental breakdown if my favorite hen died, so I consider it lucky that it was Black Betty.

Hey I was wondering.......

I have my SPPR pullet Rockette in the house. A few months ago, she had caught her foot in the top of a brooder on the porch. It was late, I had just gotten home and was out putting birds away. Suddenly she fluttered or I doubt I would have seen her hanging there. I broke her in, got her back in shape and she's been out with the main flock till just 3 a few days ago.

I was out with the rabbits and I hear Rockette screaming. I have a little bantam Wellie roo out there and he had mounted. I tossed something that direction and he took off. She started to get up and my BBS AM roo got to her. Before I could get across the yard, my FBCM roo decided to get into with the AM roo and they fought on top of her. My poor girl isn't standing yet. She falls to one side, looks weak, but she eats and drinks and even sings the egg song when she hears the others. I'm sure she'll mend again, but I'm still upset.

Anyway, could something similar have happened? Maybe she has an injury that you can't see??

I have Rockette in a toaster box. It keeps her upright and helps her legs not turn out. I did the same thing when she had been caught and she healed so well you never would have known. If she has too much room she spreads out and I want to make sure she has the best chance of getting well.
