Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Candle my eggs could only candle the amerucana and the cochin batam, 3 clear amerucanas out of 10. 1 clear cochin batam out of 4 I think. The OEs and Marans are too dark the see though. My flash light is not strong enough to see though shell.

Had chicks finish hatching today. I think there was 34 eggs to start with (I dont usually candle) got 23 chicks, 4 BCMs I opened shell to live chicks 2 are going make it for sure in with other chicks 2 our in bator still 1 is going to make it the Other questionable....
4 eggs were clear , two BCM were in the bator upside down chicks drowned 5 died aout 16 or 17 days.
I read some where two check BCM eggs at the end of hatch to help them out.
I have a heck of a time hatch BCM. It is challeging for sure......

I was a tad disappointed that we haven't gotten more candling reports!!!

I am certainly grateful that most of you have done better than myself.

There wouldn't be much time to get your guess in. Guesses would have to be done by...... what, Monday or Tuesday? I would give away this book I have. However, I don't know how to do those spread sheet things, and Laree is too busy.

Don't know, don't know, don't know.......

I wish!

Wonder if aquauim silcone would work to patch eggs ??? Does hurt the fish !!!!!

Good news bad news.

Good news -
I can see dark shadows in the AM and Marans eggs that were too thick to see veins in

That's a few less mysteries in the bator.

Bad News -

I dropped an egg while candling

Interesting experiment -

Remember eating glue as a kid? Well we are going to see how chicks like it :) I had a bottle of wood glue on the table where the incubator is. The egg I dropped cracked but didn't break, I don't have any candles in the barn, and I couldn't find the duck tape

so I grabbed what I did have, some glue. I figure, elementary kids have been eating it for decades, it must be safe for eggs

Time will tell

Thank you so much for posting this! I just hatched bcms and have 7 of 13 hatched. One zipped but was updside down and drowned. It looks like the last 5 are gonners.

Please tell us details on what you do to check on them and if you help, what do you do?

They were a bit wet. I need to give one of these a bath tomorrow.

I got them to look at me
