Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

The chart I am using says today is lockdown. Skyline, the Breeder that sold me the eggs says they hatch a day early too, so my eggs on in lockdown.
Oi! Good to know. I set my Basques on the Thursday before we were to set, so I am expecting them on this Thursday. I locked down on Monday.
I just bought some fluff today, and I am getting chick feed tomorrow after work. Yikes, I need to clean & set up the brooder.
This is going way too fast!

If you set them before noon, Wednesday the 4th is day 21. If you set them after noon, the Thursday is day 21. Do you have pips or do you hear them peeping?

If they do hatch early, then they will hatch tomorrow. I think some of us don't calculate the days correctly, so we think the chicks hatch early when they are right on time.

I am really wanting to hear good things from your hatch since mine are two days behind yours

Well I candled tonight in preparation for lockdown tomorrow at noon. I have 27 out of the 42 original eggs remaining. 13 are shipped eggs and a few of them have some really wonky air cells, but the chicks were kicking around so there's definitely hope! I would be happy if they all hatched :)

Well, I'm off to candle then go to sleep. I have a long day tomorrow. Here's hoping it doesn't rain tomorrow so we can finish plowing the garden. I may get online just long enough to give an update. I made that mistake last time.

After I added water to the hovabator, the temps are over 102... I'm probably going to loose all of them in the hovabator... I don't know what to do....

Take a plug out..you must have put warmer water in..it will go down. Nah, you will get some out of the hova.

And, who was worried about the temp being too high? Too high isn't good...as you know, but I personally try and keep it lower than during incubation time..even a couple of days before lock down. I find they don't need the real warm temp, and that they do better when it's time to take all that energy to turn. So I keep it around 97. Then also, if your temp wanted to spike, it wouldn't go too high. If you didn't have it up high for too long, you should be ok..whoever that was..lol... Sorry..getting late, don't want to go to back posts...

I added more cool water and the temp is back down to 99.7 ... it's all I could think to do... but the humidity averages just over 70. carumba!

A WMR Ameraucana is pipped. IT'S DAY 17 PEOPLE!!!

I hope it stays cool

I probably won't get any sleep tonight.

I'll bet I cooked those eggs and the few if any that hatch will be ROOS!

I'm wondering if I should take the two pipped ones out and put them under the broody outside... OK, I'm a MESS!
