Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I think my chick may be a black australorp.... awesome if it is... don't have one of those yet!!!!

The chick appears to be solid black, but has half yellow toes. Im not sure on the color inside the egg, I want to say white??? Will check when I get home. I am currently at work and it is killing me! I know I have hatchitis, but I have to be here today. Housekeeper called me to tell me I have 3 chicks in the bator now. She said they are yellow or white........how am I supposed to know what is what? I want all 30 some to hatch, but if I went home to 30 some I would freak out, I would never know who is who! lol. Also I am hoping that wolftracks other lavender egg hatches too, but last I checked it did not have a pip. I could see nothing in either of those eggs because the shell was so thick. If I only get one, please please please be a pullet! lol

What color is the chick?

Oh and what color is the inside of the egg??

First chick is out! Now hopefully the rest of them will get into gear. I swear I keep hearing new "pops" as new eggs pip.

I will have to try to catch up later but for now I wanted to report that of my three eggs, I have two pips. [three if you want to count the two little pips in the BA egg.]

Went outside to go gather some eggs so they don't freeze today and saw Mr. Cogburn and Whitey doing this:

I just can't figure out what those two crazy kids were up to. Both of them seemed perfectly happy to be like this.

Silly Mr. Cogburn.

...maybe it isn't a BA, now that I see it through the camera lense... lol
I love this! How the heck did you get such an awesome picture?

I have my first pip on the Saturday-set eggs. A Blue Birchen Marans announced its intent to hatch just a few minutes ago. I just moved my hobbled chick to the brooder, and all is calm for the moment.

Boy, am I glad I took today off!

27 out.

2 more pipped!! Both Drekki Icelandics
I just wish my Peachick Ameraucanas would hatch. All I got SO FAR from her eggs is 1 Am and 1 Sumatra.
I'll "man up" and be grateful for those I get!

I'm hoping that I'll get more in the next two days.

Sorry. None of mine have pipped and the negative hatching vibes were getting to me!

I have a pip ! ! TWO, actually! Woooo Hoooo, here we go!

Congrats!!! Am I the only one left now without pips?

I didn't mean home birthing is illegal. You can have your baby where ever you want. I meant being a midwife and delivering babies during home births is illegal (this was in 1990). I have heard of ways midwives get around the laws to attend home births. My DD had a home birth 4 years ago and the wording in the contract that the midwife had her sign shows me they are still having to scoot around laws that make it illegal for a midwife to deliver a baby at home. She specified she was there to attend the birth not to deliver the baby.

When I had my training we didn't have the special contracts that absolved you of responsibilty in the event there was a problem but I took my training in the 80s. Now folks are getting smarter about doing what they want and still getting trained help to assist. My grand mother was a midwife and "attended" many deliveries. Nobody tried to tell you how to give birth in those days.
