Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I did a shell count and there have been 21 hatch and I culled 2 of those so I have 19 chicks so far and lots of pips and zipps. Mostly out of the eggs not shipped. All the LF are in another bator and only 2 hatched in there.

I've also had temp spikes. The bator with the LF in it keeps going up to 103 and the bator with the most eggs that are hatching the humidity is way up there. There is water on the windows but the hydrometer says 69%. I don't normally hatch with it that high but not alot I can do about it now besides open the vents. The other needs raised a bit. I'm gonna slip a wet paper towel in to see if that helps.

Ugh! Everyones eggs are hatching already! *talks to eggs* "Comon guys! Get outa there! Eggs across the country are already hatched!

I have a few pips, but no zipping yet. Still waiting.....
And then a chick hatched, then two more.... In the amount of time it took for me to catch up!!!

Sunnydawn, you are not the only one without pips! Mine are just sitting there and I can't see anything happening...I'm sure tomorrow will be the big day!

I'm still pipless. <*sigh*>

I have two EcoGlow 20s and a 50. They are absolutely wonderful! They use very little energy (the smaller size uses 18 watts) as compared to the heat lamps, there is no bright light on 24/7, so the chicks get a natural Day and Night cycle, and you discover they don't need as much heat as you were "taught" they need for so many weeks.

Yeah....... I got nuttin' here.........

Ditto. Still. Friday night around 2300 hours. But then again, I did set them a full day late, so Easter Sunday IS their scheduled hatch date. <*tapping fingers*>

Is there a prize for "last to pip" ????

I have been hoping the chirps of the brooder chicks have been encouraging the chicks inside these eggs. This is the "Nursery" and "Brooder" room. I have to move the WCB Polish out once I start getting new hatchlings.

I have Monday off, plus I took Tuesday and Wednesday, too... I have always had a few "late" chicks. I have a LOT of cleaning of brooders and moving of chicks planned for the time.

Whoo hoo!! I have 5 Blue Andalusians and 2 Sumatra chicks out careening about the bator. 2 shipped Ameraucanas are pipping and zipping along with a Cochin and another Sumatra. This is very exciting and TIRING! I really need to go to bed, but I have this need to keep going in to check on them. It is all I can do to not snag them and put them in the brooder.

There are still 16 more babies to go. I am really hopeful for my shipped eggs. My own birds' eggs seem to be doing well already. I don't know how you people do it with those huge hatches. I think this will help keep me from getting a BIG bator. Of course I DO now have 3 hovas

Yes coffee is amazing. *snooooooze Oh wait...waiting for chickies to haaathhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Oh fell asleep on my keyboard. Well, if I stay up late I'll take them huge EE's out and risk shrinkwrapping the 3 that are pipped. But they are getting the crap rolled out of them so i'm tempted. But wont. Because I will go to sleep. And I will not be setting my alarlm for every hour like last time. Only every 2 hours. If I wake up. Good night folks and happy hatching!

WHAT? Is everyone going to bed?
I thought there would be alot of us pulling an all nighter tonight!
I thought I might, but I am looking like one of the little chicks that just sorta tilts forward til their beak hits the ground and they are sound asleep. Only not in a cute way like that :) I am sure I will check them many times before morning. Nite all..

Well I'm finally getting around to posting.Out of the 24 set 5 were duds leaving me with 19. By 10:53a.m. I had two pips. At 11:23 the first one didn't bother to zip, just busted out! 12:18 p.m. I had two more pips but no more out. 3:02p.m I had the second one zip out but no more pips. 9:37p.m. another zipped out. It's now Saturday and at 12:55a.m. I had 4 out, one zipping and 5 pips. I'm going to make some people gack, I did this with an LG with fan and turner for the bator and a Hova as the hatcher.

I got the camera out. The EE was watching me write down whats hatched so far. Peeking at me thru the window so I had to get the camera.

This little EE tapped back at us when we tapped on the window. It just stood there watching us. So Cute. This one came from Hot2Pot

This one is a PR chick also from Hot2Pot. It was shrink wrapped and I got it out of the shell. This is the brooder I put the wet paper towel in and the humidity is now raising.

I did a quick NoNo here but the humidity is way high so it couldn't hurt just for a quick pic. There are quail, oegb , sizzles and silkies in this brooder with many pips. I should stick something in there and move that one egg thats sitting on the air cell side. That can't be good.

And here are the broodys. Only 2 of them are sitting. the other 2 are in there for lack of space. The slpash eating is who belongs on the eggs in the basket that has a missing mother. The one next to her is one of my new ones I got from Bobbi Porto and the one with her head not in the pic is Moe. She's been in all winter growing feathers back. I finally got her to stop laying. She was wearing herself out and me trying to give her everything she needed to rebuild herself back up but you can see she is feathering back out nicely. She's a sizzle.
