I hatched 2 for the Easter hatch, but 16 today . Did you see the pic of the OE I hatched on the OE page? You'll have to go take a peek. I don't know what color it is called.

some of my easter hatch pictures.
thanks everyone, esp Mahonri, for an awesome time.can't wait till next time.

Got home from work this afternoon and one of the brown chipmunk Icelandic chicks was dead in the brooder.

I win, I loose.

I had my computer restart and I lost a LOT of info. I hope my helpers have the data saved! (for cutest chick pics)

Off to teach my Spanish class....

I'll be back.

To Mahorni, Thank you for this wonderful time full of fun, education and fellowship. I appreciate all the hard work you and your helpers put into it. Congratulations to everyone on your chicks and to those who have (or will) won prizes. I had fun and even though I didn't get any to hatch, I wouldn't have missed it for the world! I went out and got myself some consolation and this is one of them...

I hope to keep in touch with all the wonderful people I have gotten to know here, on the other threads on BYC. Just PM me if I'm missing something good! Take care!

I have read posts that say you can use frontline for dogs. Just one dab with a q-tip on the back of the head. This is not the spray but the pour on for Med dogs.

Also, try die no mite strips. Can't remember where I got them.

Of course you need to thoroughly clean your coop and sorry to say for mites you really need to use poison. If they are on the hen(and are mites and not lice) then they are probably Northern Fowl Mites. What I read said the other type of mites don't stay on the chicken. They live in the coop and come out at night and feed on the chicken. Northern Fowl mites will kill your chickens.

LICE and MITES
Lice and mites can be a serious problem. By the time you see them, you may have a massive
infestation. If you see mites on your birds, you need to clean your coops thoroughly. Lice live
only on the birds
, but mites live off the birds and climb back on at night. Scoop all shavings
out of the coop, bag it and dispose of it in the trash (not the compost pile). Spray the entire
inside with the Frontline or poultry spray from the feed store, especially under and on top
of the roosts. Then apply Poultry Dust all over the floor and in the nest boxes. Add clean
shavings and some poultry dust to the nest boxes.
I also hang Die-No-Mite strips in the entrances to the coops.

At least I have a chance of catching up here, now that the hatching is done!

I brought my sick hen inside, and she is crawling with mites! For now, I just used DE, but need to buy something else (I want to avoid Sevin if possible). She has trouble keeping her head up, and one eye doesn't open all the way, so I don't know if she has some other sickness other than mites.
For now, she is living in a pet carrier on the dining room table, feasting on scrambled egg. She does look a little better than last night.

The tiny late hatcher Basque is still tiny and not eating as much as I'd like, but the chick is much more active now, so I have hope for him.

I love seeing everyone's chick photos!

OK since almost everyone who on this forum reads this thread. Is there any way to find all of your posts in eac thread you post in? Not just hunt the entire thread, but actually find just your own post?

I buy them from Smith's Poultry Supply:

That's what I usually do. Miss how you can go back from profile in the old site and see each post and not just the threads.
