I have fallen in love with the Silkies. I never even wanted to hatch them, then thought, well, I have never hatched them, so, will try. Steel~~my~~heart!! I will have to post a pic of the one I decided to keep. If you have had Silkies before, is it true, that it takes a while to be able to sex them? I am so hoping mine is a girl..of course. I just ordered more Silkie eggs. Everyone around here wants them. Hard to get quality Silkies around here, so I find them here on BYC. They sell fast. I get first choice though..here's my baby I kept. She is a splash. Looks like you have some frizzle in there? Cute!

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for this wonderful Hatch a long. I purchased my first hens a little over a year ago and wandered across BYC. I saw this crazy Mahonri hatch a long and thought...Not this year, but maybe later on. By New Years I was anxiously awaiting the easter hatch a long and was one of the first to sign up. My previous hatches had been dismall failures and I attribute this one's moderate success to everyone on this thread for their input, help and encouragement. I am sure there are many many people involved to make this a success and I don't want to leave anyone out I just want to give a great big Thanks!
For those of you that came in late or are thinking maybe another hatch a long...here are some things I really enjoyed from this years thread.......

  • Great creations such as brooders, incubators, packing material and my favorite the pedigree boxes.
  • Vicariously watched emu's hatch, tell their toddler/teen story and fell in love
  • Incubation techniques such as dry incubation, stabilizing temps, etc
  • Found out about the Spot check thermometer and purchased
  • Figured out what a water weasel is....still can't find one
  • Was inspired/enabled/peer pressured into wanting to acquire additional breeds such as icelandic, isbar, emu's, alpaca's, peacock, LGD's and many many more
  • How to trap and eliminate pests such as skunks and moles
  • How to scare a momma moose and baby from your pasture
  • Great recipes were shared
  • How to create seed rows
  • How to fix numberous computer/byc/internet or profile issues
  • How to multi quote or put things in signature
  • Found out Who MN is
  • And most of all I really enjoyed visiting with all of you over the last several months!

May your year continue to be blessed with more chickens, chicks and eggs!
God Bless,
Amy

I am not sure that is the right link, it doesn't start until the 20th? Just curious about how many hatched (those that were reported that is)

What is it you are wanting to know that hasn't already been posted? The link I posted was the spreadsheet for just guesses. I don't have the other spreadsheet with all the other information.

15. Brinsea's Guess How Many Eggs We Will Hatch?
Think you can figure out how many chicks will hatch during the Easter Hatch? PLEASE REPORT THE NUMBER OF CHICKS YOU HATCHED ----> HERE (this link is now unlinked)
THIS NUMBER NEEDS TO BE REPORTED BY APRIL 11TH, 2012 AT 11:59:59PM "Mahonri time" MST. This contest is open to all BYC members.
Prize: First place: Brinsea Mini Advance Incubator courtesy of Brinsea! Check out what it can do HERE

Thanks to http://www.Brinsea.com for providing us with this great prize!
Second place prize:
6+ EE's hatching eggs from Hot2Pot
1ST PLACE WINNER:silkymom1986
2ND PLACE WINNER:LeasureChix
Both winners guessed 2900, which was 3 over the 2897 reported by the time due. silkymom1986 cast her vote before LeasureChix, so she wins. Folks who reported their numbers after midnight April 11 were not counted because the rules stated that you had to report by April 11 midnight.

I haven't the slightest chance of catching up while I'm at work, so I'm just gonna post and backtrack from it to catch up later tonight.

I got home from work yesterday, Day 24 for me, and found 3 hatchlings; by this morning there were a total of six. All in one incubator. All EEs. All adorable, of course!

But that boosts my hatch from 21 to 27 out of 46 eggs set.

(I am gonna HAVE to move my Polish chicks out into their own grow out coop to free up the larger brooder.... So I can split the Easter Hatch chicks into two groups.)

I am loving my Easter chicks. This is the most I've had in the bathroom at one time, and I love their little chicky chatter.

I think one of my favorite sounds is the way they twitter to each other at night (I am reclaiming the word "twitter" for its original definition.) I am thrilled with my new brooder, and I love having a hunk of soil for them to play in, on, and with.

I'm going to sell some chicks tomorrow, hopefully.

Right now, everything around me seems to be burning! The air is smoky and the valley is thick with smoke. Luckily, the fire is a safe distance away and on the other side of a little river. It's bizarre for us to have fires in spring and for so much land to be burning...
