mail delevered to my truck!!!!

We were expecting a very important letter. It came Airborne Express. The driver threw it up on the roof because he was afraid of the dogs. It was just chance we ever found it. At least it was airborne.......

I now am even more honored that my mail woman of many years is so nice and caring. She even asked to be introduced to our dogs (so as not to make them raise a ruckus every day when she delivered the mail) and always delivers in a friendly, safe manner. She has also paid postage due on our mail a few times over the years (we reimburse her of course yet she never asked for it). I always remember to give her a gift card to Subway (her favorite!) each year around Christmas and she sends a hand written "Thank you" card to us. Genuine, old fashioned good person and she's younger than we are!

My post office told me there was no way to send anything to be held, they would not do it.

The worst thing is she left these clearly labeled eggs in there Saturday, and added more mail on Monday and again on Tuesday!
Even worse is that we were home each and every time!
No note,no honk, nothing!

One time my regular carrier left mail in a vehicle but she also left a note. I just went and checked my now 10+ day old frozen eggs and they are ice cold with the air cells moving just where it is thawed....

Did you talk to the post master or post mistress at the PO or just who answered the phone? They can and will hold mail at the PO we do it all the time and many of the eggs we ship out are marked the same way. Get the persons name and call the next higher on the "food chain" I would bet before you get to far up it will suddenly be no problem.

I'm a mail carrier (a sub to boot!) and I have often left packages in garbage cans, under door mats, or even under large trucks, etc. in inclement weather and whatnot. Many of our elderly customers actually want us to walk in their house and put the packages and mail on a table for them! A lot of times I forget garbage bags to put packages in, a lot of houses don't have nice big front porches! But I ALWAYS leave a notice, the reason that I do this is so the customer doesn't have to come in the office for their packages and the packages are protected from the weather. If I have a bad day and I screw up somehow, leave the package in a location the home owner doesn't frequent or left somewhere they didn't want it to be, my postmaster goes ballistic on me and rightfully so!

Oh, this past spring I had the honor of delivering hatching eggs for the first time!! They were placed in a mail bucket and covered with tape over the top with a large sign saying "Hatching Eggs-Fragile" and even had a cute pic of a chick busting out of its shell! Too cute! I delivered it right to the door and they were so happy to see me!!

Now again, if they hadn't been home I would have had to leave a notice and it having been a Saturday they would have had to wait until Monday a.m. to pick their eggs up.

Remember too, that not everyone checks their boxes out on a daily basis and that is where we usually put notices, I prefer to leave them in the box rather than the door because of the weather conditions. It may start out as a nice day, but if you're gone for a long weekend and it gets crappy out, the notice can get ruined. Check the boxes!!

That being said, it is really helpful when people clean their mailboxes out on a daily basis (especially this time of year!) and also-feel free to call the office and talk to your local postmaster and tell them where you prefer packages to be delivered. They will tell the regular carrier and they'll tell their sub, mistakes do happen, but some are inexcusable as in not leaving notices, leaving packages curbside; really how lazy can you be! Granted, not every office is as on top of things as mine is (unfortunately some people just don't care), but I've worked in several locally and they all seem to be fairly conscientious. Unfortunately due to union rules, short of stealing, it is very hard to get fired-one of the pros and cons of unions.

To the OP, I would definitely talk to your regular carrier and tell her what happened, don't take it out on them, but just explain the situation. Trust me, no one wants to be criticized and if your regular is on top of things, they will tell their sub! I'm so sorry this happened to you, but maybe you had a newbie and they thought they were doing the right thing? There are so many rules and regs to remember when you start out it is quite nerve wracking! Not taking sides, but just remembering what I was like when I first started-scared to death I was going to screw up somehow and so nervous if I couldn't find somewhere to put a package.

ETA: Sorry this is so long!!

Well its good to know there are some great postal folks. I just adore my regular mailman he always brings my eggs to the door no matter what the weather and you should see the way he handles them like they were fine china

He was telling me about how that sub I am having issues with stole a good percentage of his holiday tips. Lucky fort me I always hand it to him directly so I know he gets the cash. He said the same thing, short of a major offence she wont be fired and he cant prove she toiok his tips it is just based on what the home owners told him.

I thought that it was against the rules for postal workers to accept monetary tips any more. I leave a tin full of fudge in the box for mine.

That is not an approved mail recepticle, I would talk to the supervisor about them paying for your eggs!

My thoughts too. The mail can only be handled by USPS. Anyone else messes with it then it's a federal crime.
With that much crankiness about that you'd think there's equal fuss over proper containers.

I would definitely call that in. May not help you this time, but it should at least protect you in the future.
(and also your neighbors too!!)

Edit... and I tend to always get the delivery confirmation thing... it's 80 cents, and well worth it.
You can check online and KNOW when your package was delivered.
So even if you don't see it you'd know to go hunting for it.

I haven't ordered eggs or chicks through the mail yet, but I had a large package of exotic plants for my live planted aquarium ruined by the post office recently. The seller sent them to me Priority, which usually takes three days to get from him to me. Well, three weeks later, still no package, no notice, no letter saying the box had been confiscated, nothing at all. We didn't get insurance or a tracking number since it's usually not a necessity. So, he talks to his post office. They say that 'a delivery attempt was made but no one was home, so a message was left.' I go talk to my post office. I never got a notice, plus the day they say that they tried to deliver, there were 4+ people home, and my usual spots to be working in the house are near the door, or outside in the yard where I would obviously not miss a delivery. Well, it was my word against the temporary carrier's, and the package was uninsured so I had to re-order and could not get a refund on the shipping. The seller was kind enough to send me a new package for free, which was wonderful. The package sat on a shelf in the post office for almost a month, obviously the plants did not live. They are supposed to leave three notices, but we did not get even one, plus the carrier lied about leaving one. Our regular carrier will bring packages to the door and if we happen to be not home, she leaves them on the porch. This one didn't. The package was small enough to fit in our mailbox, and she did not even do that! The second package arrive in a timely manner, delivered to the door, but was frozen. Some things lived, but it will take months to get it looking good again.

Now I'm scared to order chicks! When I do, I will be calling the post office every day after they are shipped, asking if they have arrived!
