MAINE chicken stocks, swaps and shows 2012

I am looking forward to the Augusta swap on Saturday, and browsing to see what everyone is offering.
What is the best way for me to go about finding some quality midget white turkeys or hatching eggs, I am not interested in raising any to show, but would like to have some with good genetics so I can overwinter a few and hatch some the next spring. For that reason I am reluctant to purchase them from a hatchery. I like the quality of the birds I have purchased form local breeders, you can tell where each one of my birds have come from by comparing them. The quality shows.
How do you go about finding someone with good quality stock if you can't find them in state?

I had some last yr but I bought eggs off byc and hatched them. I will have some bourbon reds in a few weeks, those are due april 7th.

I just got confirmation from the Skowhegan TSC for chicken swaps! They are wanting to have us there on the 21st of April. We will be close to the store and have access to water.

I will be going to both the swap on saturday in augusta, and the swap on the 1st in wilton. I will be bringing 2 very beautiful dwarf rabbits, 2 himalayan dwarf rabbits, 3 californian meat rabbits, possibly less, 1 buff angora doe, and some cages maybe and some eggs or poultry waterers, and dog waterers, 10 gallon tanks, etc. We will see I have some chicks but I think I am going to keep them. I will be looking for chicks, bantams, adult and teen chickens, silver spangled hamburgs, rabbits, etc, Cant wait for the well planned swaps to start up, the previous ones were kinda just last minute squeduled. Just make sure there is a sign that says pet day or whatever, Cant wait, hope to see you all there. I have been spreading the word!

Any idea what animals will be at the Augusta swap? It's an hour from where I'll be but I'd make the trip if I knew what was there. Right now, I just want a female bantam duck...
Ahhh! LoL move the Waterville swap to April 24th! LoL I'll be in town that day hahaha! So it should be scheduled around me LoL j/k

if you post on the augusta chicken swap thread, that will alert people of what you are looking for and they might be more tempted to bring it.

Ok, I spoke w/ the assistant manager at the Skowhegan TSC, and he wants to have a swap on April 21st, since they are having a farm day. They are having lots of farm animals there and said that they would love for us to bring what we have. The hours are 8:00-1:00, and we will be near the store (not the road) and have access to water for the animals. They are also trying to get someone there to trim dogs nails. The manager seemed pretty excited to have chicken swaps there. If you have any questions, just ask.
