great! I like going to wilton and skowhegan swaps where they are closest to me. hoping to go to a few augusta swaps this season as well. Mini rex litter due begining of april, chicks due around same time, and thinning out the bunnies as well if anyone is interested in changing their breeding stock or pets, I am open to trades.

PLEASE - if anyone knows where I can get black tailed white japanese bantams, chicks or eggs I would love to get some. Also looking for mini rexes, angora rabbits, goat does, turkeys, cornish chickens, buff silkies, khaki campbells and muscovies :) Thank you!

there is someone in Grey selling week old Dominiques for $4 a chick. these are all pullets ordered from a hatchery. Found an ad for them on CL. I still have the number if you want it.

YES PLEASE!!!

Do you think it would be ok to add day olds with them? or am I going to have to do 2 separate brooders?

I looked on craigslist and didn't see anything chick related. I wonder if they are out and took the listing down?

OK, I found the # for grey! :)

ANyone have Welsummers that live in southern Maine?

Just marking my spot in this thread. I find my subscriptions get kind of lost, but I am constantly on my profile page viewing "recent activity", which will put this thread right there.

I have never been to a swap, but hope to participate this year. I am assuming that people do not bring very young chicks (how would you keep them warm?) unless perhaps you can run something off your car battery.

I won't have semi-grown chicks until May, but hope to visit some swaps earlier to see what it is all about. Waterville, Skowhegan, and Augusta are all pretty close here.

people do bring young chicks but I prefer that they are a bit older for several reasons. one that you mentioned and the maine 6 chick rule- under 8 weeks old must be sold in lots of 6. I use an aquarium to keep out the wind but usually don't sell chicks at the swaps any younger then 4 weeks old. that's my personal preference. by the time they are 5-6 weeks, many breeds can be sexed and thats a bonus to buyers. and a better price for you.

Hello! Yes, I do bring young chicks to swaps. Like hoppy said, you have to keep them out of the wind. I usually bring a small cardboard box with straw in it, then put a picture on the outside of what is for sale. That way, the chicks can heat the box themselves, as long as it is small enough for the number of chicks...
